The first measurable snowfall of the season always presents a challenge to drivers, and last week’s snow was no different. Last Friday afternoon a Montevideo school bus was slid into a ditch as a result of slippery road conditions.
According to a press release from the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, at 4:17 p.m. Chippewa County Dispatch received a report of a one vehicle rollover on Chippewa County Road 34, about one mile north of County Road 9. A subsequent call clarified that it was a Montevideo school bus.
The bus had lost control on the snow covered road and slid sideways into the ditch. As the bus came to a stop, it tipped slightly on its drivers side before tipping back upright upon its wheels.
Six children were on the bus at the time of the accident; no injuries were reported, but all children were transported to the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital as a precautionary measure. Parents/guardians of the children were notified.
Assisting at the scene in addition to the Sheriff’s Dept. were the CCMH Ambulance crew and the Minnesota State Patrol. The accident is still under investigation by the Sheriff’s office.
