Vivian Swenson, 91, of Appleton, died Saturday, March 7, 2020, at Appleton Area Health – Care Center.

Vivian Arlene Swenson was born, at home in Akron, Township, Big Stone County, Minnesota, on Aug. 27, 1928, to Emerson and Ellen (Johnson) Kavanagh. She was baptized in 1928 at First Congregational Church in Appleton. Vivian was raised in Akron Township and attended school in Correll and Odessa, where she graduated, Class of 1946. On March 27, 1949, Vivian was united in marriage to Leroy Louis Swenson at First Congregational Church in Appleton. This union was blessed with over 68 years together and four children: Keith, Colleen, Lynn, and Lynette.
Vivian was employed for many years at North Central Gas and Ronning Dental Clinic, both in Appleton. She enjoyed working in the yard on her flowers, listening to sports (especially the Twins!), reading, listening to music, and most of all … spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vivian was a long-time member of several Bible study groups, where she made it a priority to read through the entire Bible every year. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Trail Blazers Saddle Club. In her younger years, Vivian was a 4-H leader, Sunday School teacher, and Sunday School superintendent. Vivian was instrumental in starting Tri-County DAC; was Past-Chair of Hometown Calling; and was a Gold Star Grandmother.
Vivian passed away Saturday, March 7, 2020 in Appleton Area Health – Care Center. She attained 91 years, 6 months, and 10 days of age. Vivian is survived by her children, Colleen Kahler, of Montevideo, Lynn (and Joy) Swenson, of Correll, and Lynette (Dan) Arnold, of Holloway; eight grandchildren, Brian Kahler, Patrice (and Shaun) Luker; Jacob (and Laura) Munsterman, Joseph (and fiancée, Elena Schaefer) Arnold, Jennifer Arnold, Joshua Arnold, Ember (and Dan) Ludvigson, and Cody (and fiancée, Kassidy Platow) Swenson; granddaughter-in-law, Vicki (and Mark) Patterson; eight great-grandchildren, Allison Kahler, Kylee Patterson, Jay and Sawyer Luker, Aiden, Jaden, and Asher Ludvigson, and Adalynn Munsterman; brother, Loren (and Bonnie) Kavanagh, of Appleton; sister, Yvonne Hagstrom, of Alexandria; sisters-in-law, Norma Swenson, of Worthington, and Vera Kavanagh of Bemidji; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband (2017); son, Keith Swenson; grandson, SFC Matthew Kahler; sisters, Lucille Brabender and Dorothy Krogsrud; brother, Ray Kavanagh; and nephews, Greg Swenson and Richard Brabender.
