John Thomas Powers Jr., was born Nov. 3, 1941, in Minneapolis and passed away peacefully at Chosen Valley Care Center, in Chatfield, on May 7, 2020. He is preceded in death by his mother, Martha and father, J. Thomas Powers. He graduated from St. Thomas Military Academy and Mankato State University with a B.S. degree. John was given an award from Senator Dole for his volunteer work at the American Red Cross. He later worked for the Red Cross as a purchasing agent. John had a good sense of humor. He loved hunting, ice fishing, snowmobiling and ATVing in the woods. He was an avid amateur botanist and wildflowers were his favorites. He enjoyed playing pool and cards with friends at the Montevideo Senior Center.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, of Chatfield, his two children, son Christopher Powers; daughter Maria (and (and Brian) Jeffrey; step-daughter Karen, (and Conrad) Curren; and nephews, David Johnson, Robert (and Patricia) Johnson, and Brian (and Darlene) Johnson and their children Tyler, McKenzie, Kylie Ann, Emma, Joseph, and Maddie.
