Marguerite “Maggie” Doris Gates, 92, of Faribault, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at Faribault Senior Living.
Maggie was born on Jan. 24, 1928, in Milan, to John and Hattie (Running) Olson. She graduated from Milan High School in 1945.
She was united in marriage to Benton “Bud” L. Gates on Nov. 6, 1949, at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan.  They lived in Montevideo for 14 years where their children, Jim and Michele, were born. They then moved to Sioux Falls, for two years where Bud worked for Pam Oil. After two years they moved back to Faribault where Bud continued in the oil industry. Four years later they moved to Owatonna where they owned and operated Bud's Liquor. Their last move was back to Faribault where they enjoyed their retirement until Bud's death in 1995.
Maggie found great joy in raising her family and assisting with Bud's businesses. She also worked for many years at Owatonna H&R Block.
She was an avid golfer who loved all aspects of the game and for many years happily lived within walking distance of Faribault Country Club.
Maggie was a devout Christian spending time daily with the Lord and loved her church, First English. She volunteered many hours on the funeral committee and answered the call when other needs arose.
She is survived by her children Jimmie (and Cathy), of Eagan, and Michele (and Wayne) Green, of St. Augustine, Fla.; grandchildren, Michael Gates (and fiancee, Adrienne Sherman) and Kristine Gates; sister, Florence Pritz, of Colorado Springs, Colo., sister-in-law, Norma Olson, of Sunburg; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband Bud; parents, John and Hattie Olson; siblings. John “Buddy” Jr. (and Grace) Olson, Lawrence (and Ina) Olson, Richard “Bobby” Olson, Lucille (and Dennis) Anderson, and Helen (and Sam) Commons.
Memorial services will be held at a future date at First English Lutheran Church in Faribault. Interment will be at Terrace Lawn Cemetery in Montevideo.
