Marion & John Mitlyng
Memorial services for Marion and Jon Mitlyng will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 2:00pm at Our Saviours Lutheran Church of Baxter, rural Montevideo with Rev. Matt Danielson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church
Marion Diane (Maus) Mitlyng was born on November 15, 1943 in Montevideo, MN to Adolph T. and Gladys R. (Sunderland) Maus. She was baptized and confirmed at Rosewood Methodist Church of Montevideo. Marion graduated from Montevideo High School in the class of 1961. She worked at First National Bank before joining the Women's Army Corps (WAC).
Jon David Mitlyng was born on July 25, 1943 to Arnold D. Mitlyng and Agnes T. (Belsaas) Mitlyng in Montevideo, MN, and was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Baxter all of his life. He graduated from Montevideo High School in the class of 1961. After graduating high school, he joined the US Navy and served for four years.
Marion and Jon were married April 5, 1964 at Rosewood Methodist Church of Montevideo. They moved to Santa Barbara, CA where Marion worked as a manager at a bank and Jon was a foreman at plastics and bottling factory. In 1975 Marion and Jon returned to Montevideo. Marion and Jon had three children: Lance, Matthew, David, and considered their nephews Doug Jr and Cory Maus as sons.
Marion worked as a farmer, banker, county assessor, and at the Montevideo School Superintendent's office. She also volunteered at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Baxter and VFW Post 380. Marion's pastime was visiting family and friends. But her favorite passion was hosting gatherings for family and friends as she enjoyed having her house full of company. Marion is best known for being "Mom" to everyone from her siblings, children, family, and anyone in need of caring.
Jon returned to Montevideo to farm his family's farm. He was also a grain dealer, a commercial driver, a certified diesel mechanic, and a certified welder who made many custom pieces of equipment for himself and others. Some of Jon's hobbies were fishing, hunting, traveling, golfing, and like Marion visiting with family and friends. To his grandchildren, visiting children, and a great number of nieces and nephews (known as Uncle Jon) he was always playful and rambunctious creating a large commotion of laughing children. Jon was also a member of VFW Post 380.
They are survived by their two sons: Matthew (Anita) Mitlyng of Anoka, MN and David (Tristie) Mitlyng of Denver, CO; four siblings: Bruce Maus of Woodbury, MN, Ruth (Ken) Cordingley of Aberdeen, SD, Marsha (Tim) Radermacher of Montevideo, MN and Cheryl Edling of Colorado Springs, CO; five grandchildren: Alicia, Demie, Andrew, James, and Gregory; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Marion in death is her husband, Jon; her parents, Adolph and Gladys Maus; son, Lance D. Mitlyng; brothers Douglas and Clarence Maus; sisters-in-law Judy Marshall and Lorraine Maus; and brother-in-law Jack Edling.
