Bemidji - Jim "J.D." Hansen, 83, of Bemidji, MN died Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at the Sanford Fargo Medical Center in Fargo, ND.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm, Friday, August 27, 2021, at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji, MN. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00pm, Thursday, August 26, 2021, at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji, and one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Bemidji, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji.

He was born at home in Rock County, MN, on April 14, 1938, the son of Newton and Margaret (DeBates) Hansen. He was raised near Cottonwood and Minneota, being educated in Minneota. He graduated from Minneota High School in 1956. He drove truck, hauling fuel and livestock, he also owned and ran a farm. He married Marlys Kise on September 17, 1960, in Boyd, MN. He began working in road construction, and eventually he started his own business in 1986 called J.D. Hansen and Sons Inc. They built roads all over the State of Minnesota, and Jim never retired after being in road construction for 60 years. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed time at the cabin, hunting, fishing, tracking the weather, storytelling, and jokes. He loved to play cards, attend family gatherings, and spend time with friends. Time with his grandchildren was precious to him. The coffee was always on and everyone was welcome at his table.

He is survived by his children: Doug Hansen of Bemidji, David (Laura) Hansen of Bemidji, Deb (Reid) Jurgenson of Dawson, MN, Dawn Turner of Bemidji; grandchildren, Josh, Drew, Lexi, Ty, Nick, Ryan, Heather, and Katie; great-grandchildren, Austin, Athena, Serena, Eva, and Jordan; siblings, Jerry (Rose) Hansen of Alexandria, MN, Larry (Gail) Hansen of Backus, MN, Judy Peterson of Kansas City, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marlys Hansen, his siblings Betty, Beverly, Dean, and Bob.
