Remember these Obama quotes?

Why don’t many gun owners feel they can trust President Obama when he says he is not incrementally attacking the Second Amendment? Let’s look at some of the president’s prior statements and actions.

“I will put all health care negotiations on C-Span.”

“If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor. If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep it. No one will take it away from you, ever.”

“We reject sweeping claims of inherent presidential power.”

“I don’t want to pit Red America against Blue America. I want to be a president for all Americans.”

“Our southern border fence is basically complete.” (5 percent had been erected.)

“An anti-Islamic film and resulting protest caused the attack that killed the ambassador in Benghazi.”

“I am not one to support gay marriage.” Former White House advisor David Alexrod: “Obama was always for gay marriage but concealed it.”

“We have a choice. We can accept politics that breeds division, conflict and cynicism or come together and say, not this time.”

“There has never been a better friend of Israel in the White House.” (He wanted Israel to return to pre-1967 indefensible borders.)

“There is not even a smidgen of corruption at the Internal Revenue Service.” (Before investigation ended.)

“We will be able to inspect Iran’s facilities, anytime, anywhere.” (Iran does the inspections.)

“I will cut the deficit in half by the end of my first term.”

In 1996, while running for Illinois state Senate, Obama answered this question on gun control: “Do you support legislation to ban the sale, manufacture and possession of handguns.” “Yes.”

March 2004, then state Sen. Barack Obama voted against allowing the people of Illinois to have firearms in their homes to protect themselves.

Two principles that Obama supported on gun issues in the past: (1) Ban Sale and transfer of all forms of semi-automatic weapons. (2) Increase state restrictions on purchase and possession of firearms.

And of course on his swearing in: “To the best of my ability I will preserve, protect and defend the Constitution ...” (Second Amendment, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed ...)

To quote Big Daddy in “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” by Tennessee Williams: “Ah smells the powerful odor of mendacity (untruthfulness)!”
