Luther Haven Nursing Home & Assisted Living Facility is preparing for the holiday season with its long-held tradition of gathering donated gifts from the community to distribute to residents for Christmas. This year, the donations will operate a little differently, which Activities Director Megan Holt hopes will provide residents with a more personalized experience. Holt asked the staff at Luther Haven to make notes of what items a resident may want or need, to create a list that was specific to each resident. “It was really intended to gear it toward each resident’s needs,” says Holt.

The list has been created on Amazon’s website as a gift list, which allows the purchaser to choose the option to ship the items directly to Holt for sorting, wrapping, and distributing. There is also a designated box in the entryway of the facility that will be there until December 3rd for those wishing to drop off donations as well. Holt says they also sent fliers out to surrounding churches as they usually do to request gift donations, but wanted the ability to expand the option for donating to more of the community. “It’s a little bit different than having it be generic, every resident gets the same gift. It’s still nice and they appreciate that, but there’s something about having a gift that’s tailored just to you,” Holt says.

The gifts are distributed at a Christmas party each year. This year’s party will be held on Thursday, December 23rd. In order to collect, organize and wrap the gifts for the residents by the day of the party, Holt is hoping to have all donations in by December 3rd. Those wishing to donate funds for purchasing gifts can write a check directly to Luther Haven, noting that the funds are for the Christmas Gift Project in particular.  The donation box inside of the entryway is open currently, and the Amazon Wish List is also available currently and can be found at
