Victim identified in fatal hit and run in Wakefield. Police are still seeking information on the driver of the vehicle.

Susan Harmon, 44, of Melrose has been identified as the victim of Monday night’s hit and run accident on Greenwood Street in Wakefield.

Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone and Wakefield Police Chief Rick Smith confirmed the identity of the woman.   On August 25, at approximately 8:58 p.m., Wakefield Police received several 911 calls reporting that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle on Greenwood Street near the Melrose town line. Witnesses reported that a woman was struck by a green or tan Audi with tinted windows. The vehicle then north on Greenwood Street.   The vehicle has not been located at this time and authorities are asking anyone with any information to contact Wakefield Police at 781-246-6331.
“Wakefield Police and State Police from our office are conducting an active investigation into the circumstances of this motor vehicle fatality,” Leone said. “Our sincere thoughts and prayers are with Ms. Harmon’s family.”   “We are determined to locate and identify those responsible for this terrible tragedy. I am confident that in the end we will find those responsible and bring closure for the Harmon family. We owe them that much and we will keep the family in thoughts as we move forward in this investigation. I respectfully request, that if anyone has any information relative to the suspect vehicle, owner and /or operator, please call the Wakefield Police Department,” Chief Smith said.   This case is being investigated by Wakefield Police and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.
