Byron Douglas ‘Pat’ Webb, Jr.

Byron Douglas ‘Pat’ Webb, Jr., retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel, passed away peacefully of heart disease on Tuesday, August 9 at the St. Williams Living Center in Parkers Prairie at the age of 86. He was born March 17, 1936, in Breckenridge to Byron Douglas ‘Bob’ and Gretchen (Haugen) Webb of Montevideo, where he was raised, confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, and graduated from high school. He received a pharmacy degree and a Master of Hospital Pharmacy from North Dakota State University, a Master of Hospital Administration from Baylor University, and a Master of Public Administration from Troy University.
Pat served 20 years as an Army officer with tours of duty at the 560th Medical Ambulance Company in Korea and the Third Surgical Hospital in Vietnam. He attended the Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kan. prior to serving as Medical Battalion Commander at Fort Riley, Kan. His final assignment was as Inspector General at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Denver, Colo. During his service he received both the Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit medal.
Upon retiring from the military, Pat became a practicing partner at Ken Caryl Pharmacy in Littleton, Colo. and finished his pharmacy career at Children’s Hospital in Denver and the Yuma Regional Medical Center in Arizona.
Pat married the love of his life, Barbara Jean Johnson of Benson at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church on June 27, 1959. They had two children, Byron (Jen) Webb of Katy, Texas and Rebecca Webb of Glenwood. The family spent summers at their cabin on Berens Point Drive on Lake Minnewaska, greatly enjoying the opportunity to maintain contact with family and their Minnesota heritage. Pat and Barb spent their final retirement years in Tucson, Ariz/ before returning to Minnesota to live at Grand Arbor in Alexandria. Throughout his retired life Pat enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, writing his novel “Hardesty”, going for daily runs, being involved with and serving as President of his local Tucson Rotary Club, attending NDSU football games and Minnewaska Laker sporting events, and walking his daughter’s dog and affectionate companion, Bella.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Grace (Webb) Painter of Helena, Mont. He is survived by his wife, his two children, his brother, Ned (Cheryl) Webb of Sahuarita, Ariz., his niece Amy (Sean) Peron of Sahuarita, and his nephew, Patrick Webb of Dalton, Ga. In accordance with his wishes, a private graveside inurnment with military color guard was held at Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery.
