Kindred Spirits is more than just nice phrase, it’s the name of the music act coming to perform live at the Java River courtyard on Friday, September 9th at 6 pm. Pete Lothringer, Emily Hoffman, and Darwin Dyce make up the trio coming to Montevideo to play their music live. When asked about how Kindred Spirits came to be, they said, “We’ve been playing together as ‘official’ trio for about six years. Darwin sat in with Pete and another musician, Ross Anderson, and wondered about trying a trio with guitar, flute, and vocals. We’ve played in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings ranging from home concerts, farmer’s markets, local arts council events, and more.”

Church of Cash will be performing at the Chippewa County Fair on Sunday, July 31st. Jay Ernest, the lead singer of Church of Cash recently shared the history of the band, organizing and performing a set called the Folsom Prison Experience, as well as what touring is like.

Headlining the music acts involved with this year’s Chippewa County Fair is Chancey Williams, a country music star from Wyoming. Williams will be performing on Saturday, July 30th beginning at 10 p.m. after a performance by Great Frontier Bull Riding.

The Split Rail Saddle Club held their July Fun Show at Lee- Mar Ranch and Equine Center last Friday evening. The event included competitions in a number of categories including Key Race, Egg and Spoon, Poles, Pennant, Jump Figure Eight, Barrels, Ball Drop, and more. Competitions are divided into age divisions from Pee-Wee to Senior Plus. The category winners are awarded ribbons and prizes.

In what is becoming an annual event, members of the First Iowa Division of the North American Railcar Operators Association will travel through Montevideo on the rails of the Twin Cities & Western Railroad again this summer. The group, which mustered two dozen motor cars for its excursion last year from Sacred Heart to Appleton, will be in Montevideo Sunday, July 31.

Students of Rhoda Nelson of rural Clarkfield were presented in a Spring recital on June 2, 2022 at New Life Church in Clarkfield. The recital represented a culmination of work done throughout the school year. Awards and certificates were presented for the following events:

Seventy-six years ago, Montevideo Fiesta Days was started by local businessmen to celebrate the sister city relationship with Montevideo, Uruguay that began in 1905 when the two cities exchanged flags. Today, we continue to celebrate this relationship and our community with events for all ages.
