Hey. How about we just finish off winter before we start to do the temperature roller coaster again? I can’t remember any other winter where we have had so many warm days followed by mixed precipitation (freezing rain) and then snow and cold, cold, cold. I am sick of ice on the roads when I drive and on the city streets when I walk the dog.

Junior Achievement in need of volunteers to continue

One-man show to perform downtown February 24th
MG Bailey, whose first name is Matthew, will be visiting Montevideo to play his live, one-manband music at Talking Waters Brewing Company downtown on Friday, February 24th. Bailey, who hails from Homewood, Illinois, says he was first introduced to playing music as a kid when he was playing saxophone in the school band.

Community Center hosts Valentines event
Nearly 60 people attended the Montevideo Community Center’s Valentines Day celebration held February 14th over the noon hour. The festivities included a meal served by Prairie Five, games such as Wheel of Fortune and trivia, and line dancing.

Locals weigh in on the lefse debate

Whether it’s one of the tastiest morsels of food to ever hit your mouth or you can’t stop wondering why people eat it at all, lefse is a tradition here in the Midwest. With three different types of lefse to choose from, there is Tynnlefse (thin lefse) which is traditionally rolled with sugar, cinnamon, and butter inside; there is Potelefse (potato lefse) which is the same as Tynnlefse, except it’s made with 100% potatoes or a mix of wheat flour and potatoes; and then there is Tykkelefse (thick lefse) which is often served as cake with coffee.
