Memory Care Corner:
After having the grandchildren here for a couple days to celebrate Christmas, I noticed a word that seemed to work itself into many of the conversations – the word, No! Realizing that many of my decorations are not “kid-friendly” the parents of our three soon to be two year old grandsons were saying things like: “No, just look at the manger scene” or “No, do not take the ornaments off the Christmas tree.” Even our four year old granddaughter Charlotte needed to be reminded, “No, Charlotte, we cannot open presents just yet!” After doing some research, I learned that the average toddler hears the word ‘no’ an astonishing 400 times per day! At first I felt that 400 times seemed to be an exaggeration. However, just stop and think about how often we say things like: “no running, no throwing, no hitting, no jumping on the furniture, etc.” We are constantly telling our children how NOT to act – instead of telling them positive things like: “walk please, put it down gently, be gentle with your hands, or sit on the couch please.” Even though it is good for children to learn the word ‘no’ and what it means, I feel that we use the word ‘no’ more often than looking for or saying a positive statement.
CO2 Pipelines community meeting to be held
C.U.R.E. is hosting a Carbon Pipelines 101 meeting in Lamberton at the Lamberton Legion Post #41 on Monday, January 23rd at 6:30 pm. This event is being organized by Citizens Concerned on the proposed carbon pipeline running through ten Minnesota counties. If you are a landowner or concerned community member in Cottonwood, Jackson, Redwood, Renville, or Yellow Medicine Counties in Minnesota you should attend. We will have a lineup of speakers to talk about easement concerns, safety concerns, crop, land, environmental concerns, farmer viewpoints and more in-depth information.
Why?
People ask, why should we attend your church? In my response you may see that a church family is made up of many people and all of them have varying understandings of why they attend or not. The idea of attending any church has become foreign to most. Some attend church because it is what we have always done or because there is a family expectations. Some attend during certain events such as Easter or Christmas, Funerals or Weddings. Some attend because that is where they can meet with family and friends, a social gathering. None of these responses mean much of anything to me as a pastor. The reason to attend a church should be simple, to worship the Lord and be in fellowship with the church (the body of Christ). Why is not so simple. Because, as humans seeking a relationship with God, life is all about me not God.
CHURCH SCHEDULES
Assembly of God, Clarkfield SUNDAY: Sunday School 9 a.m.; Worship 10 a.m.; Evening 7 p.m. Wednesday: Teens 5 p.m.; Young Explorers 6:30 p.m.

Ask a Trooper
Question: I was driving on the freeway during the worst part of a recent storm. Just had a question—are people supposed to use their emergency flashers when they are driving? So many cars on the freeway were, and it made it impossible to tell if someone was actually stopped or moving slowly (also, if they changed lanes, there was no way to tell).

Live Well, Age Wisely:
When I was first learning about Medicare, I found the name Part C very confusing. When a person is first enrolling in Medicare, they sign up for Parts A and B through the Social Security Administration.

News from Milan
Alright folks, how can fog develop when it is below zero? This winter has been so strange. I remember not too many years ago having to use a humidifier in the house in the winter because it was so dry. And this year it has been quite humid. I must admit that even the dead weeds in the ditches look lovely when the hoarfrost paints them a fuzzy white. And the trees don’t look so dreadfully bare with the frost covering them. Got a little nervous Friday afternoon when the breeze was shaking the frost from the branches. It looked like it was snowing. And that makes me very unhappy.
