The locally owned small businesses not only help save on gas costs not having to travel to metro areas for entertainment but offer a more affordable price for recreation and goods.

Minnesota CREP enrollment period ends after 5 years

Yellow Medicine Soil & Water Conservation District The Minnesota CREP (Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program) enrollment period is wrapping up after 5-years. The CREP program is intended to take marginal cropland and provide permanent protection for water through wetland restorations, filter strips and well head protection areas.

Railcar Excursion travels through Montevideo

Dan Westby of the Twin Cities & Western Railroad is shown presenting John Givan of the Milwaukee Road Heritage Center a $750 donation for use by the Center. The donation was made during the annual NARCOA Railcar Excursion that makes a stop at the depot while riding their railroad motorcars on the track from Sacred Heart to Appleton on July 31. The Twin Cities & Western Railroad is a regular supporter of the Heritage Center. There were 23 motor cars in the group. Lac qui Parle in French means “lake which speaks”; in Dakota it means “little talking lake”. The area that now exists as Lac qui Parle State Park was once settled by a Dakota village near the site of Fort Renville, which located in what is now the state park.

Montevideo Farmer’s Market offers variety of early-season goods

The Farmer’s Market opened in the last week of June for the season in Montevideo. On Thursday, some of the regulars along with some visiting vendors gathered for the market in a different location than it’s normally held due to the storm damage in Smith Park.
