The approaching walleye fishing season comes with a reminder from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to always follow state laws to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species.It’s important for anglers to take a few minutes for invasive species prevention every time a boat comes out of the water.DNR Invasive Species Program Supervisor Kelly Pennington said that’s true whether an enforcement officer or watercraft inspector is present or not.“All anglers and boaters in Minnesota are required to take three simple steps: clean, drain, dispose,” Pennington said.

Duo set on breaking speed record for river travel makes way through local area

Early last Friday morning, two canoers, Scott Duffus and Scott Miller, traveled through the local area in their attempt to set a fastest known paddle time on the Minnesota River - a journey of 317 miles.The journey began at the Minnesota River Headwaters in Ortonville and concluded at the boat ramp at Fort Snelling State Park on Sunday with a time of 63 hours and five minutes.

299 Scholarships awarded to MHS students

At Monday evening’s meeting of the Montevideo Schools Board of Education, High School Principal Chris Weber gave a report noting that at this year’s scholarship program, held May 8th, 299 scholarships totaling over $177,000 were awarded to 80 seniors.
