Minnesota Citizens for the Arts meet-up highlights stories of how art has impacted local community
Tuesday morning, Sarah Fossen from Minnesota Citizens for the Arts, along with Sue Gens, the Executive Director of the Minnesota State Arts Board, and Caroline Taiwo, Program Officer of Arts and Culture for the McKnight Foundation, made a stop in Granite Falls on a weeks long tour Minnesota Citizens for the Arts does annually in order to gather stories of how the arts have impacted local communities in order to bring to the capital for the purpose of lobbying for arts funding.

SMAC hosts grant workshops to inform local artists of opportunities
Last week, Southwest Minnesota Arts Council (SMAC) hosted a grant workshop at Java River Cafe in downtown Montevideo in order to provide information to area artists about the opportunities available for grants in the region SMAC covers.

Police stand-off results in area school lockdowns
On January 11th, area schools including Lakeview, Montevideo, Dawson-Boyd and Lac qui Parle Valley sent out emails to parents notifying them that the schools were in teach-on lock-downs due to a situation law enforcement had made them aware of in the local area.
