Muggy weekend on the way
Most of central and west central Minnesota had cloud over and rain on Saturday. However, I was in the Crosslake area on Saturday for a family reunion, and we enjoyed picture perfect weather in northern Minnesota!

News from WRAP: PTSD and domestic violence – understanding the lasting impact
June is recognized as PTSD awareness month, a time dedicated to increasing understanding and support for those affected by Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. PTSD is a mental health condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event, impacting individuals’ thoughts, emotions, and daily lives. This month serves as a vital reminder to break the silence and stigma surrounding trauma and mental health, promote early intervention, and encourage conversations. By raising awareness, we can foster empathy, improve access to care, and support healing and resilience in our communities.

CURE’s Peg Furshong appointed to Task Force on Future of Minnesota’s Water by Attorney General Keith Ellison
This spring, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison created the Advisory Task Force on Future of Minnesota’s Water. This Task Force aims to study issues affecting the stewardship of Minnesota’s water resources, explore best practices, and collaborate to develop a broad set of recommendations for policymakers and regulators, advocacy groups, and business leaders, communities, and individuals. Additionally, the Task Force will compile a report detailing its findings and proposed solutions.

Yost releases new poetry collection rooted in the rural midwest
Author and former area newspaper editor Dana Yost has released a new collection of poetry that explores themes of place, memory and everyday life in the rural Midwest. The book, available now through Finishing Line Press and Amazon, is Yost’s latest latest literary work since leaving the newspaper industry in 2008.
South Dakota State announces spring 2025 dean’s list
More than 3,800 students were recognized for their outstanding academic performance over the spring 2025 semester at South Dakota State University by being named to the dean’s list.
Rodeberg awarded a full-ride Build Dakota Scholarship
Alex Rodeberg of Montevideo, MN, has been awarded a full-ride Build Dakota Scholarship at Southeast Technical College. The competitive award will cover Rodeberg’s tuition, fees, books, uniforms, tools and supplies as they complete the Construction Management Technology program at STC. Now in its 11th year, the scholarship program has set recipient records for four consecutive years. All of this year’s scholars have an industry sponsor that finanically supports the scholarship.

Tanner Aus claims sixth Hawley Rodeo Championship
Minnesota’s own Tanner Aus, 8x Wrangler National Finals Rodeo Qualifier, won his sixth American Heroes PRCA Rodeo with an 82-point ride aboard Universal Pro Rodeos’ Blueberry Special. The Granite Falls native secured a $1,173 payday. Aus won Rodeo Austion (Texas) earlier this year, repeating his title in back-to-back wins and making it his third overall since 2017. Aus, a veteran cowboy with a rodeo resume including career wins at Cheyenne Frontier Days, Calgary Stampede and The American is a home state favorite. He was a featured interview during the weather report with Russ Thomas on Valley News Live.
Opportunities available to hunt elk in Minnesota
Hunters have through Thursday, July 3, to apply for one of four elk licenses offered this year by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
