The 2025 Madison Bly Fest Taking Place October 17-18
The 2025 Madison Bly Fest will take place in Madison, MN on October 17-18 to celebrate the life and legacy of influential poet Robert Bly (1926-2021). Bly was born and raised in rural Lac qui Parle County. He returned to the Madison area as a young man to write many of his most influential books, including The Light Around the Body, winner of the 1968 National Book Award for Poetry.

The Montevideo Middle School Students of the Month for September are: Lorelai Bothun, Liam Wacha, Mauner Sierra Ponce, Kylee Aalfs, Brantley Baker, Madeleine Godfrey, Asher Christensen, Yosmery Sabillion, Quinton Kibler, Ayani Gonzalez, Allison Almendarez Rodriguez.

12 tips for families to enjoy time outdoors during the MEA school break
Each October, Minnesota’s children get a school break during the Minnesota Educator Academy. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources encourages families to spend time outdoors during the MEA break, which is Oct. 16-17 this year.

Kindergarten class learns about Fire Safety
The Montevideo Public Schools Kindergarten class paid a visit to the Fire Hall last week. The Montevideo Fire Department was assisted with the activities by CCM Health Ambulance, LifeLink, Kibble Equipment, and Chippewa County Family Services who took the time to show what they do and talk safety with the kids.

Montevideo FFA takes part in horse judging, forestry
Last week, the Montevideo Schools Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter participated in horse judging and forestry. In Horse Judging, Cali Janke took 1st place individual. In Forestry, Lucy Schiller took 5th place individual.

Sam’s Pumpkin Patch celebrates fifth season with MEA weekend events
Just outside of Montevideo, Sam’s Pumpkin Patch is open for business for the fifth year. What began as an idea Sam Ripley had in high school has grown into a destination known throughout the region for family friendly fall themed activities.
City Council approves cannabis ordinance
At last weeks meeting of the Montevideo City Council, one of the topics of discussion was the adoption of Ordinance 995 which amends the Montevideo City Code to define and permit cannabis retail in designated highway business districts. “We are required by the state of Minnesota to have permitted areas, and we are allowed to determine appropriate zoning locations,” explained City Manager Robert Wolfington. “This has been reviewed by the Planning Commission, and this is their recommendation.”
