The Minnesota Highway Safety Center will be offering 55+ Driver Discount Courses locally on the following days: -May 24th Four Hour Refresher Course: 1 to 5 p.m. Montevideo Community Center.

American Red Cross When every second counts, blood products can provide lifesaving care. The American Red Cross asks the public to give blood or platelets during Trauma Awareness Month in May to keep hospitals prepared for all transfusion needs, including emergencies.

New watershed board of directors member appointed
At Tuesday morning’s meeting of the Yellow Medicine County Board of Commissioners, one of the topics of discussion was the appointment of a new member to serve on the Lac Qui Parle - Yellow Bank Watershed Board of Managers. The appointment is for the remainder of a three-year term ending January 1, 2024. There were three applicants in total, with one of the applicants living outside of the Watershed’s district.

Denim and Diamonds dance held at Montevideo Community Center
Holly Olson, of Melody Lanes Family Entertainment Center, noticed that the bowling alley’s patrons that visit for Special Olympics bowling really enjoy the music playing in the venue, and dancing to it. With that thought in mind, Olson contacted Monica Schweiger who works for an agency in town that has community members participating in the program. “We started talking about it, and I asked if they do dances,” says Olson. “They used to do them in Willmar and Marshall, but then when COVID came, they stopped doing them so they haven’t had one in years, so I said well, let’s plan one.”
Montevideo’s prom themed The Roaring 20s
This year’s Montevideo High School Prom is themed “The Roaring 20s” and will have some changes to how the driveup is done. For safety reasons, the drive-up will now be done with more streets blocked off in the vicinity, meaning guests watching the grand march will need to park in areas other than the usual.

Wellbriety hosts fun, sober activities
On Saturday afternoon, Wellbriety hosted a kickball game with the Junior Homies youth group playing against the Wellbriety recovery squad. The Junior Homies won 13 to 11. Afterward, the group met for pizza at the Community Center. One Wellbriety recovery member said the opportunity to have sober community activities to take part in is helpful. “I’ve been struggling with some things so if I’m glad to be here spending time with my daughter,” said Ricky Blomlie. Activities planned through Wellbriety are open to the public, and more information about upcoming activities as well as the group meeting times and dates is available on their Facebook group page, Wellbriety Montevideo.
