Minnesotans are encouraged to report observations of ring-necked pheasants and wild turkeys in a citizen science effort by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
USDA Offers Disaster Assistance to agricultural producers in Minnesota impacted by recent severe weather
Agricultural operations in Minnesota have been significantly impacted by recent severe weather including tornadoes, derecho winds, hail, lightning, and flooding. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has technical and financial assistance available to help farmers and livestock producers recover from these adverse weather events. Impacted producers should contact their local USDA Service Center to report losses and learn more about program options available to assist in their recovery from crop, land, infrastructure, and livestock losses and damages.
Minnesota DNR expands library pass program to provide more access to state parks and recreation areas
In partnership with over 200 libraries and bookmobiles across the state, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is expanding the popular library park pass program, which provides access to state parks and recreation areas at no cost to library patrons.

Rubi Santacruz represents Montevideo in Aquatennial Ambassador program
The Minneapolis Aquatennial Ambassador Organization (AAO) is excited to announce that Rubi Santacruz from Montevideo will be participating in the AAO Candidate Program from July 22nd to July 28th.

Emergency meeting held on state of Carnegie Library
Last Thursday, the Montevideo City Council held an emergency meeting on the state of Carnegie Library. The reason for the emergency meeting was concerns of public safety due to the state of the facade of the building. Bricks have been falling off of the North side.

Maynard hosts 4th of July celebration
The small town of Maynard put on a big display of fireworks on the 4th of July. The fireworks show was preceded earlier in the day by Maynard’s annual 4th of July parade.

More rain late week
For the most part we had a nice Independence Day weekend. We did see some heat and humidity on Friday that sparked some showers and thunderstorms. However, the rest of the long weekend was generally pleasant.
Chippewa County Fair returns July 30th-August 3rd
The 2025 Chippewa County Fair is coming up on Wednesday, July 30th through Sunday, August 3rd! There will be 4-H animal shows and different 4-H activities happening all week long! We invite you to take part in the Little Farm Hands interactive ag activity, visit the barns, watch a show, have a meal at the 4-H Food Stand, and experience the fair! The 4-H Food Stand will be open Wednesday-Saturday from 11:00-9:00 and Sunday until 4:00.

St. Cloud Technical & Community College congratulates the following students for their academic achievement Fall 2024. They have earned recognition on the President’s List for a grade point average of 4.0 or the Dean’s list for a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.99.
