Minnesota Twins offer free hats

Anyone with a 2023 Minnesota fishing or hunting license can receive a free special edition orange Minnesota Twins logo cap and a ticket discount thanks to a special ticket offer from the Twins. That’s right — Minnesota DNR Days are back at Twins games this season, through a partnership between the Twins and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Yellow Medicine County 4-H program enrollment up

com At Tuesday morning’s meeting of the Yellow Medicine County Board of Commissioners, Yellow Medicine County U of M 4-H Extension Educator Alicia Webb was in attendance to provide an update on the programs 2022 activities. In Yellow Medicine County, the 4-H program had 230 youth participating in 2022, along with 47 volunteers who took part in the seven community/project clubs.

Chippewa County Historical Society Hall of Fame inductee announced

Each year the Chippewa County Historical Society chooses an individual or couple to join the Hall of Fame. This honor is given to someone who has gone above and beyond to help the Society meet its mission of preserving and sharing the history of Chippewa County. This year’s inductees are Bob and Diane Berven of rural Milan.

Report fish die-offs to help DNR, others respond as needed

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources encourages Minnesotans to contact the state duty officer if they see evidence of a fish die-off in a lake or stream. Fish die-offs can result from a variety of natural and human causes.

MHS students take part in 2023 Culinary Skills Challenge

The 2023 Culinary Skills Challenge, held Wednesday, April 19th, on the Southern Minnesota State University, Marshall, campus gave students from southwest Minnesota an opportunity to learn more about food and the food industry. Approximately 250 students took part in this educational event, including 39 students from Montevideo High School.

DNR reminds public to not prune, cut oaks spring through July

Despite a cool and snowy spring, oak trees will soon be at risk of oak wilt infection. Oak wilt is an invasive fungal disease that kills all of Minnesota’s oak species. Not pruning or cutting oaks from April through July is the easiest way to prevent the spread, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Citizens appeal to council for support on trail

com At last week’s meeting of the Montevideo City Council, a number of citizens attended to express their hopes that the City would get behind a project for the Lake Snoopy Loop Trail. Bill Pauling spoke, noting that the project has been proposed by Geoff Hathaway, President of the Minnesota Trails Initiative.

Department of Public Transformation announces 2023 cohort of the Ignite Rural artist residency

The Department of Public Transformation (DoPT) is pleased to announce the 2023 Cohort of the Ignite Rural Artist Residency. Ignite Rural uplifts rural arts and cultural workers as invaluable contributors to increasing community connection. 8 artists were selected for the 2023 Cohort, which is in its second year of operation, led by the Ignite Rural Program Director Holly Doll, Anpao Win (First Light Woman). Ignite Rural artists will receive a $4,000 creative fund, an additional $6,000 living stipend, and access to an $800 artistic development/ wellness fund, along with six months of cohort model professional and artistic development support through workshops, in-person gatherings, and digital learning exchanges. This project is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
