Annual reports given at City Council meeting
At Monday evening’s meeting of the Montevideo City Council, department annual reports were given for the 2022 year. City Liquor Store Manager Jeff Andreas gave a report on the Liquor store noting that total sales over 2022 were just under $2.7 million, up 3.2 percent from 2021.

A.R.O. moves to new location
Last week, Advanced Recovery Opportunities (A.R.O.) moved to a new location. The recovery group was formerly housed in the downtown Montevideo building known as the Old National Bank building. They have now moved to Main Street, and are located at 115 N 1st St.
Board hears report on 2022 EDA activity
At Tuesday morning’s meeting of the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners, Montevideo City Manger Robert Wolfington and Community Development Coordinator Jack Gottfried were in attendance to provide updates to the board. The County has traditionally provided some funds towards Economic Development, and so Gottfried presented an overview of the work the Economic Development Administration has been working on over the last year. The EDA is made up of seven different board members who have been working on a variety of projects, including the Thunder Hawk apartments that were constructed in the early part of 2022. “We heard back from the developers that they are interested in doing another addition to that,” Gottfried said.

Rain and snow possible through Saturday
One week ago, we were enjoying temperatures in the 60s and 70s across much of the state. Parts of Minnesota were even in the 80s and lower 90s across the Twin Cities and southern Minnesota.

Free entrance to Minnesota state parks, recreation areas on Earth Day, April 22
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is waiving vehicle permit fees at all 75 state parks and recreation areas on Saturday, April 22. This “Free Park Day” is one of four days each year on which the DNR waives the requirement for a vehicle permit at state parks and recreation areas.

News from Milan
I really thought that spring was here when we had a couple of days of warm 70+ days. Silly me. There I go, thinking again. And as I write this, there are snow flakes drifting down. They would be pretty and welcome is this was October or November. But, what can you do. Live with it. We’ll probably just jump right to summer in a couple of weeks.

Beanbag tournament scheduled in honor of former Clarkfield resident
The family of Ariel Sakry is planning a memorial beanbag tournament not only to remember and honor Ariel, but to help raise awareness about domestic violence. Ariel, who grew up in Clarkfield, and attended Yellow Medicine East High School, was just 25 years old when she was shot and killed by her husband Isaac Malone in April, 2022.

Horse made popular in children’s book and author to visit Granite Falls
This Saturday, a special guest is coming to Lee-Mar Ranch Equine Center. Tammy Rudningen, of rural Pennock, along with her horse Tic Tac will be bringing registered guests an experience that includes a copy of Rudningen’s book, penned under the name T.R. Star, titled “Tic Tac Takes a Tour”, the chance to meet and take photos with Tic Tac - the star of the book, and a reading of the children’s story.
