Cooler temperatures than average

After a winter storm brought snow to the region last Thursday into Friday, we had a very nice weekend. There was lots of melting going on both Saturday and Sunday as high temperatures were in the 30s and even into the lower 40s on Sunday. With light winds and plenty of sunshine, it was a very nice weekend for early April! I saw people out going for a walk and many snowmobilers enjoying the nice weather.

Healing Hearts Night at the Barn draws full house Saturday

On Saturday evening, a crowd almost more than the Lee-Mar Ranch Equine Center could hold gathered for the fourth annual Healing Hearts Night at the Barn fundraiser. The event featured a multitude of silent auction items donated by area businesses and organizations - everything from saddles and riding gear, to stays at a local Air BnB.

McDonald’s restaurant to contribute to Ronald McDonald House Charities

McDonald’s owner/operators of more than 220 participating restaurants in Minnesota, western Wisconsin and Ironwood, Michigan announced that they will donate $62,488 from the sales of Shamrock Shakes and Oreo Shamrock McFlurrys to the six (6) Ronald Mc-Donald House Charities locations in Minnesota.

What a difference a day makes. Yesterday we were seeing gray skies and a portending blizzard, which did materialize. Today the sun is bright as is our outlook, even though there is a forecast for another snowstorm next week. How many times can we endure these slaps by Mother Nature when it is supposed to be spring? It’s depressing, for sure.

Ostlie to be speaker at annual banquet

The annual meeting of the Chippewa County Historical Society will be held on April 18, 2023, 6:00 pm at the Milan School. The event will feature a catered meal of broccoli grape salad, meatballs & gravy, mashed potatoes, corn, and carrot cake for dessert. Milk, coffee and water available. Dinner will be followed by a brief business meeting, election of board members and speaker, Paul Ostlie. Those who have an interest in being a board member can email Chippewahistorical@ gmail.com. The speaker for the evening will be Paul Ostlie, son of the late hall of Fame winner, Evelyn Ostlie. Paul will share stories of Ma-za-sha (Red Iron), Frank Stay and other Chippewa County residents and the Dakota War of 1862. He has many artifacts, stories and materials to share with the society. Uruguayan Ambassador to the United States visits Montevideo for two-day trip

During a two-day visit to Montevideo, Uruguayan Ambassador to the United States Andrés Durán along with Minister Counselor Nathalie Peter, and Counselor Maria Fernanda Garcia visited a handfull of locations around Montevideo including the José Gervasio Artigas statue downtown, the Montevideo School, and Ice Castle Fish Houses. The group was also honored at a dinner held at the American Legion Post #59 Thursday evening. The visit was arranged with the assistance of the group, Minnesota Uruguay Partners of the Americas.
