Reitmaier joins staff at Yellow Medicine SWCD
Kyle Reitmaier joins the Yellow Medicine County Soil and Water Conservation District as a new conservation technician. Reitmaier grew up on a farm in Rockford, Illinois, and raised horses. After high school, he enlisted in the Marines and spent four years as a Combat Engineer working in construction and demolitions with foreign militaries.

Audrey Arner of Montevideo prefers to think of helping as an opportunity to think about what we want our community to be like. “There’s been points at which some people have convened to talk about a vision for Montevideo, meaning what we want it to be like, not next year, not three years from now, but in the long term. If you think about that, what’s called for is everybody putting their shoulder into it,” she says.
Chippewa County residents invited to attend flood map information open house
Representatives from FEMA will host a Flood Map Information Open House for communities in Chippewa County, Minnesota, on April 5, 2023, from 5 – 7 p.m. CT. The open house will give residents a chance to review preliminary versions of the recently completed Flood Insurance Study (FIS) report and its accompanying preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs).

Question: What am I supposed to do if I am at a railroad crossing and need to report an emergency? Answer: Call 911 and provide the needed information. Every highway- rail crossing has an Emergency Notification System (ENS) sign that provides a 24/7/365 telephone number to report problems or emergencies at the railroad location.
Informational Community meeting on Upper Sioux State Park land transfer
State Senator Gary Dahms (R – Redwood Falls) and State Representative Chris Swedzinski (R – Ghent) invite area residents to attend an informational meeting regarding the possible transfer of lands from the Upper Sioux Agency State Park to the Upper Sioux Community. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 5 at 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria of the Minnesota West Community and Technical College Granite Falls Campus (1593 ‒ 11th Avenue). Folks should use the door to the AG Bush Student Center on 11th Avenue.

2023 Free Park Days announced for Minnesota state parks, recreation areas
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is waiving vehicle permit fees at all 75 state parks and recreation areas on four dates in 2023. The Free Park Days will be Saturday, April 22; Saturday, June 10; Saturday, Sept. 9 and Friday, Nov. 24.
