Montevideo City Council member charged in court

Jessica Stölen-Jacobson Editor jstolen-jacobson@cherryroad. com Montevideo City Council member Steven Sulflow appeared in Chippewa County Court December 28th, and was sentenced to supervised probation, as well as ordered to pay a $500 fine for an incident that was reported to the Montevideo Police Department in September.

Cold weekend temps on the way

I don’t know if I remember a winter that has had as much hoarfrost. We had another beautiful sight on Sunday across much of western and northern Minnesota of hoarfrost. The conditions were just right once again for the formation of this phenomenon. By the way, you don’t have to look far for hoarfrost to form as it is the same type that forms in your refrigerator or freezer.

CCM Health announces Community Investment Program

CCM Health announced that the application period for large grants for its Community Investment Program will be open from January 16 – March 1, 2023. The successful program is in its third year of benefiting many of the communities that CCM Health serves.

New DNR tool provides health information for thousands of lakes

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has created a new online tool, called the Watershed Health Assessment Framework for Lakes (WHAF for Lakes), providing easy access to water quality and health information for thousands of Minnesota lakes.

Ivan Parga joins Southwest Initiative Foundation as new community engagement specialist

Ivan Parga of Worthington has joined Southwest Initiative Foundation’s (SWIF) staff as a community engagement specialist. In this role, he works to identify local strengths and challenges, build community-based skills and be a resource to the region through community-led partnerships, especially with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.

Local team works towards solutions for substance use in rural communities

com When 6W Community Corrections Director Midge Christensen approached Montevideo City Manager Robert Wolfington with a proposal to join a committee that would work towards finding solutions geared towards rural communities in dealing with substance use and abuse issues, Wolfington didn’t hesitate to agree. “I’ve had conversations with community members about concerns with drug abuse in our community and programs that are available here now, but I have to admit I don’t have a ton of personal experience with it or even professional experience with it, so I jumped at the opportunity to participate in this as the novice in the group,” says Wolfington.
