DNR warns that slush weighs down ice
Last week’s snowstorm that dropped heavy, wet snow across much of the state has significantly affected ice conditions, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Slush adds weight to the ice and its effects can be unpredictable.

SMSU hosts Dakota 38+2 Wokiksuye Riders in their final year
Southwest Minnesota State University was honored to host the Dakota 38+2 Wokiksuye Ride on their stop in Marshall on Dec. 20-21. SMSU was but one stop on the 330-mile journey that began on Dec. 9 in Lower Brule, So. Dak., and ends on Dec. 26 in Mankato, Minn. Wokiksuye means to remember.

Schultz family named Chippewa County Outstanding Conservastionists for 2022
Ron and Pam Schultz have been nominated as the Chippewa County Outstanding Conservationists of the Year for 2022. Ron and Pam were nominated by the Chippewa County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) for their conservation and farm stewardship efforts.

RECIPE
OF THE WEEK Sugar Cookies 1 egg - well beaten 1 cup sugar 1 cup shortening and butter (1/2 of each) 1 tsp vanilla 2 cup sifted flour 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/8 teaspoon salt Beat egg and then add sugar, and shortening/ butter and beat well. Drop by teaspoons onto a baking pan and press them flat with the bottom of a glass cup coated in sugar.
Let’s not settle
Have you ever wondered what could have been? Most of us can look back on our lives and wonder how our decisions at some point impacted our future. It’s the question of “What if?”, and is often accompanied by regret for something we didn’t do. For instance, sandwiched between the incredible stories of two iconic Bible characters, Noah and Abraham, is Terah. Most of what we know of him is found in Genesis chapter 11. Terah lived in Ur of the Chaldeans, and was the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

Just for Kix winter show fills the MMS gymnasium
A large crowd gathered to watch all of the performers in the 2022 Just for Kix Winter Show held at Montevideo Middle School Sunday afternoon. The “Just Kickin’ with my Gnomies” holiday-themed show featured performances by all of the dance groups in the Just for Kix program, from the Wee Hip Hop performers to the High Schol competitive team.
