Apply by Dec. 7 for DNR grants that help children get outside
Public entities and nonprofit organizations serving people younger than 18 can apply for No Child Left Inside grants through 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is offering the grants to help more children cast a line, study animal tracks, hike, bike, or simply learn more about nature.

Montevideo entrepreneur makes donation to bring local families joy in the holidays
CCM Health’s annual “Stuff the Truck” event was held for the first time this season Sunday afternoon, and received a large donation from Montevideo entrepreneur Joe Rongstad, owner of All-Time Curbing and Landscape.

Montevideo student elected to leadership role
In the state of Minnesota, there exists a teacher-led organization among alternative school educators called Minnesota Association of Alternative Programs (MAAP). A part of MAAP includes a student focused program called MAAP Stars, in which students from alternative learning programs throughout the state can participate in challenges involving real life scenarios, and work together in leadership roles towards opportunities for refining life skills. The student group additionally works to educate the public, and elected representatives on what alternative education is and why it is important.
More funds needed to complete VA Clinic project
At last week’s Montevideo City Council meeting, one of the topics of discussion was a revision of the budget for the VA Clinic project happening at CCM Health. The construction of the new clinic has seen a change in the cost, causing a need to increase the budget from $4,558,568 to $5,468,716. The revision, says City Manager Robert Wolfington, should get the project through it’s anticipated completion in March.

Cooler temps for the weekend
We were very fortunate to have some great weather over the long Thanksgiving Weekend. On Saturday, temperatures were in the 40s and 50s across the state! Rush City hit a very warm high of 56 degrees! Windom, Hutchinson, and Jackson all topped out at 55 degrees, while Brainerd climbed to 51 degrees.
