Christmas in the Village – Feliz Navidad December 3rd

You are invited to join us for “Christmas in the Village – Feliz Navidad” which will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Historic Chippewa City, a pioneer village, which is located at the junctions of Highways 7 & 59 in Montevideo. This year celebrates the Christmas traditions of Mexico, Central and South America.

Charges dismissed in trial involving Granite Falls physician

Last March, former physician with Avera’s Granite Falls clinic, Mark Eakes, made his first appearance in Yellow Medicine County Court on charges of 3rd Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct. Over the next months, additional charges were added, totaling nine in all in both the 3rd and 4th degree. All charges alleged that Eakes had engaged in unwanted sexual contact with five female patients between the years of 2019 and 2021.

Yellowstone Trail master plan presented

Last week, a meeting was held at both the Montevideo Public Library, and Bird Island Cultural Centre to reveal the Yellowstone Trail Master Plan. The plan came about when the Renville County Historical Society partnered with the Yellowstone Trail Alliance of Western Minnesota to apply for a Cultural Heritage Partnership grant from the Minnesota Historical Society. Since receiving the $54,000 grant, the group has been working to develop a state-wide Yellowstone Trail Master Plan.

Service to others was the theme at the Veteran’s Day program

The Veterans Day ceremony was held at the Montevideo High School on Thursday, November 11th at 10:30 am. The Chord Ayres performed four songs to honor Veterans; “Blades of Grass and Pure White Stones”, “Mansion of the Lord”, “Armed Forces Salute”, and “Who Are the Brave”. The Montevideo High School Band performed “Each Time You Tell Their Story”, and the Montevideo High School choir performed “God Bless America”.
