Glen hosts Wedding Extravaganza

It isn’t every day that a couple celebrates their anniverary after their platinum year, but Copper Glen has two of them. Alvina and Don Van Gorp celebrated their 72nd Anniversary on August 19th and Milton and Eileen Hoidal celebrated their 73rd Anniversary on September 25th of this year.

Small game license sales remain below 10-year average

The number of small game hunters in Minnesota continues to decline along a longterm trendline. The number of small game licenses sold in 2021 was 233,901, down 4% from the previous year and 7% below the 10year average.

Kalvestran blends technical skill and creativity into art on display downtown currently

Jamie Kalvestran is the current artist exhibiting inside Java River in downtown Montevideo. Kalvestran has been artist since she was a very young child growing up in north central Wisconsin. As a young adult, she worked as a banker before she decided to pursue art school in Minneapolis. Her formal, technical training is in product development and design. Kalvestran currently has over 15 vendors listed on her website, the majority being textile designs. She sells prints of her designs as well as offering licensing for products. Kalvestran’s current works being displayed on exhibit in Java River are abstract in expression while also having touches of realism. Her work is like art inception, or like those hidden objects games in the kids’ magazine Highlights, except instead of looking for kids toys you’re looking for another face or another being altogether that’s been blended into the layers.

Operation Green Light underway in Chippewa County

A nationwide initiative is being upheld in Chippewa County in order to shine a light on the needs of Veterans. Operation Green Light is a new program that was established by the National Association of Counties (NACo) in order to bring awareness to issues facing Veterans across the country who are having difficulty connecting with benefits.

DNR proposes classifying 13 invasive plants, animals are prohibited to protect Minnesota’s resources and economy

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is accepting public comment through Dec. 9 on its proposal to classify 13 high-risk invasive aquatic plants, fish and invertebrates as prohibited. The DNR classifies invasive species as prohibited to prevent their introduction and spread in Minnesota, and to protect the state’s environment, economy, natural resources and outdoor recreation.

USDA designates nine counties as Natural Disaster Areas, including Yellow Medicine

This Secretarial natural disaster designation allows the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) to extend much-needed emergency credit to producers recovering from natural disasters through emergency loans. Emergency loans can be used to meet various recovery needs including the replacement of essential items such as equipment or livestock, reorganization of a farming operation or the refinance of certain debts. FSA will review the loans based on the extent of losses, security available and repayment ability.
