Gunshot fired in Clarkfield home results in arrest over weekend
According to a criminal complaint filed with the Eighth Judicial District Court, Christopher Lee, of Clarkfield, was arrested on April 15th on allegations of Second-Degree Assault as well as Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, and Domestic Assault. Lee was at the time of his arrest, the Upper Sioux Community Chief of Police.

Everyone is welcome at the meeting to be held at 6:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service is looking for additional volunteers to record and share measurements of precipitation. The addition of even a few observers across the area will lead to a more accurate picture of the weather’s impact.
Flood of Jazz to go on
MHS Flood of Jazz Commitee The 21st Annual Flood of Jazz show takes the stage Friday, April 29, at the Hollywood on Main in Montevideo. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., show begins at 6:30 p.m.

Montevideo 5th-8th grade Music and Drama departments host Wipeout
Last Friday and Saturday, performances were held in the Montevideo Middle School gymnasium of the musical, Wipeout. The production was held by the 5th-8th Grade Music and Drama Departments, produced through a special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service. The show was a challenge to put together without an auditorium. Sets were hauled in and out of the gymnasium before and after each rehearsal. Director Dan Hampton wrote, “It has been a labor of love and we are happy that shows can continue through.” Chippewa County Medical Center, Luther Haven and Walmart contributed to the production through donations. The musical was based on a book by Flip Kobler and Cindy Marcus, with music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur. The musical was based on a beach in California in the 1960s, with a plot involving the 1960s surfing theme, and a family run business struggling not to be taken over by big business. United Way of Southwest Minnesota looks back on 2021
United Way of Southwest Minnesota United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN) recently wrapped up its annual fundraising campaign. Funds raised are invested into local programs that align to one of the program’s five priority areas: health, education, financial stability, hunger, and safety & well-being.
School Board discusses upcoming facility study
At the regular monthly meeting of the Montevideo School Board, Matt Wolfert of Bray Architect gave a presentation to the board on the facility study that will be conducted. Thus far, the agency has completed staff listening sessions in order to assess the space needs of the staff in the district for future planning.
2022 Andrea Ruesch 4-H Scholarship recipients
University of Minnesota Extension University of Minnesota Extension (Minnesota 4-H) is pleased to announce the 2022 Andrea Ruesch 4-H Scholarship recipients. The Andrea Ruesch Scholarship was established in 2010 by the family of Andrea Ruesch, in memory of her dedication and contributions to the Minnesota 4-H program.
New gourmet popcorn and confections shop opens in Montevideo
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the phrase “When life gives you kernels, make popcorn” has been what Jayme and Erich Winter have lived by. The need to find a way to generate income when their business, Montevideo Millennium Theater, was closed due to the pandemic shut-downs led to the creation of their highly popular gourmet popcorn line. Selling first regular theater popcorn to a locked-down public, then experimenting with flavors they’d dreamed up over the years but had no time to try.
