Montevideo author to lead Cozy Mystery writing workshop
Montevideo author and writing coach will lead a writing workshop for all skill levels at the SW MN Arts Council annual artist retreat at the Danebod Folk School in Tyler. The description for the workshop reads, “Open the door to your imagination as we expose hidden secrets of murder, mystery, mayhem, and all manner of suspense in the workshop, How to Write a Cozy Mystery (and anything else)”. All artists are welcome to attend the annual artist retreat and encouraged to network with others while participating in a variety of workshops.
Progress continues on Montevideo Veterans Home
The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs sent an update to stakeholders this week about the progress on the Montevideo Veterans Home. In the newsletter, the MDVA notes that the Montevideo Veterans Home is scheduled to be open by the fall of 2023. Once completed, the Montevideo Veterans Home will be a 72-bed facility that will employ approximately 164 full and part-time employees. Those interested in future positions at the Montevideo Veterans Home are encouraged to sign up for the MD- VA’s newsletter which provides updates on the positions as they become available.

Cenex C-Store construction moving along
The Construction on the Montevideo Cenex C-Store has been moving along as there is now a full representation on the exterior of what the store’s new look will feature. Work continues on the inside. More seasonal weather on the way
It was not one of those weekends to write home about as it was wet and chilly. Some locations picked up nearly 2.00 inches of rain. Rainfall amounts of .50 to 1.25 inches were very common throughout the state.

Faith Column: Blessed Mother’s Day
In 1 Peter 2:2-3 we read this: “Like newborn infants, long for the pure, spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow into salvation— if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.” In this Bible passage, God is metaphorically female. In fact, God is portrayed as a nursing mother who gives us pure spiritual milk.

THEIR LOVE STORY
A serial is a publishing format that breaks down a larger work of narration into sequential installments for publication in magazines or newspapers. Serials were popular in the late 1800s, early 1900s, and even appeared in the Montevideo American News in the 1920s. This is the first week of a five week series of serials written by author and Montevideo native Arthur Norby.

EDA receives study on historic Chippewa Bank building
The Montevideo Economic Development Authority received a report at their meeting last week outlining what the needs and costs are projected to be to repair the historic Chippewa County Bank building. The building condition assessment was completed by the architecture firm Engan Associates after the City solicited the study with funds from a USDA grant.
