Time to buy new hunting, fishing licenses

It’s the time of year when anglers and hunters need to buy new fishing and hunting licenses. Minnesota fishing, hunting and trapping licenses for 2021 expire Monday, Feb. 28. Licenses for 2022 are now available wherever fishing and hunting licenses are sold, online (mndnr.gov/BuyALicense) and by telephone at 888-665-4236. Mobile buyers receive a text or email that serves as proof of a valid fish or game license to state conservation officers.

Former NFL player who grew up in local area publishes book

Larry Cole grew up on a farm near Hazel Run, attending church with his family at Yellow Medicine Lutheran in Hanley Falls every Sunday, and attending school in Granite Falls. Cole, who now lives in Texas, published a book in November of 2021 about his life experiences, including playing for the NFL.

Gold Dusters head to State Dance Competition

The Montevideo Gold Dusters team participated in the Montevideo-hosted Sections competition Saturday afternoon. JESSICA STÖLEN-JACOBSON The High Kick Team placed third in the competition, qualifying them to move on to the State competition.

2021-22 campaign results announced by United Way of Southwest Minnesota

United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN) reports a total of $499,000 was raised during the 2021-22 fundraising campaign. A small portion of the funds raised locally will be paid directly to local organizations as designated by the donors. All other funds raised will support programs working to improve the lives of people living in the 35 communities we call home. Because of funds raised in last year’s campaign, 43,000 local people’s lives are being impacted through internal programs, community partner programs and/or other initiatives.

South Dakota State University announces Dean’s List

The following students have been named to the dean's list for academic excellence after the fall 2021 semester at South Dakota State University. To earn dean's list distinctions in SDSU's colleges, students must have completed a minimum of 12 credits and must have earned at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Students with an asterisk received a perfect 4.0 GPA.
