MnDOT announces winners of Name a Snowplow contest
We’re Off To See The Blizzard and Anthony Sledwards join the Minnesota Department of Transportations’ snowplow fleet as two of the eight winners in the 2024-25 Name a Snowplow contest. Governor Tim Walz joined MnDOT Commissioner Nancy Daubenberger to announce the winning names today. Nearly 23,500 voters cast a ballot in this year’s contest.
Build Dakota scholarship deadline nears
Officials at Lake Area Technical College are reminding prospective college students that the Build Dakota Scholarship application deadline is quickly approaching.
Hike by candlelight at Lac qui Parle State Park on February 15th
Minnesota state parks and trails will host candlelight events across the state this winter, including one at Lac qui Parle State Park on Saturday, February 15th, 2025. Drop by any time between 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm for hiking as stars twinkle overhead and candles flicker in the snow.

Gold Dusters are headed to state tournament
Over the weekend, the Section 3A Dance tournament was held in Montevideo with 11 teams competing. The Gold Dusters scored 3rd place in the Jazz Division with sixteen points, and third place in the High Kick division with 15 points to earn a spot in the State Class A High Kick and Jazz tournaments. The state jazz tournament takes place on Friday at 11:30 a.m. at the Minneapolis Target Center, while the high kick tournament takes place Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the same location.

Reidinger surpasses 1,000 points
Montevideo Boys Basketball Senior Gannon Reidinger (#13) surpassed 1,000 career High School Points in last week’s game against Sauk Centre.

Students complete “Life Lessons” program
Last week, Montevideo Middle Schoolers in the fifth grade wrapped up their “Life Lessons” unit with Officer Milo. For the last 10 weeks, Officer Milo has been teaching the students about bullying, making good choices, and being kind. At the end of the unit, the students celebrated with a “Life Lessons” graduation party. Each student received a t-shirt to take home.

Speech Team begins season
The Montevideo Speech Team started their season last Saturday at the Luverne Cardinal Speech Invitational. Valeria Turcios and Alex Fultz were the champions in Duo Interpretation.

Minnesota DNR fisheries rulemaking proposals open for public comment
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is asking for the public to comment on proposed rules about fishing methods that, if adopted, would go into effect in March 2026.
