Ruffed grouse counts lower this year after a strong peak last year

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ latest ruffed grouse counts found Minnesota’s spring 2025 population is lower statewide than last year. Ruffed grouse drums per stop were 1.8 statewide, down from 2.3 drums per stop last year, an expected drop considering spring 2024 was the highest 10-year cycle population peak for ruffed grouse since 1972.

New community theatre company hosts first production

A newly formed Non-Profit Community Theatre in Montevideo, Starlight and Main Theatre Company, housed within the Hollywood on Main LLC is hosting its first production, titled “Route 66”, a 1950s Diner Musical. Wyatt Haugen, and a cast of around 10 community members will host the production July 25th-27th. Tickets are now available online or at the door. Performances are held at 7 p.m. with a matinee performance on the 27th at 2:30 p.m. More information on tickets can be found on the Starlight and Main Theatre Company’s facebook page.

Hairball comes to Montevideo on Silver Anniversary tour

The Chippewa County Fair is officially a stop on the Hairball Silver Anniversary tour on Saturday, August 2nd. The band, known for their over-the-top performances and tributes to rock legends, is celebrating 25 years of bringing classic rock to life on a whirlwind tour.

Blood drive collects 86 units

The American Red Cross blood drive was held on June 26 and 27, 2025 at the TACC in Montevideo. The blood drive was sponsored by the VFW Auxiliary of Montevideo. The total collected for both days was 86 units so just one short of the goal.
