Generally normal temperatures expected throughout the week
Much of the snow we picked up last week continues to melt away. With the sun angle so high this time of the year, temperatures even in the 30s and 40s can melt the snow away very quickly.

Highway 23 and Highway 71 left-turn lane project begins April 14
The Minnesota Department of Transportation will begin a project to construct left-turn lanes near Raymond and Svea beginning April 14. A left-turn lane will be constructed for both east and westbound traffic at Highway 23 and County Road 1, northeast of Raymond. Also, a left-turn lane will be constructed for both north and southbound traffic at Highway 71 and County Road 3 near Svea.

Montevideo boys earn trophy at Class AA State Competition
Last week, the Montevideo Boys Varsity Basketball team traveled to the Class AA state competition, leaving town on busses with a crowd of well-wishers holding signs alongside the road on their journey to the Target Center.

KOLT foundation gala exceeds fundraising goal
On Saturday evening, the first annual KOLT Foundation Gala was held at The Rock: Dining and Events. The evening featured food, auctions, and entertainment with a black and white attire theme.
Housing study open to collect local data
Over the next few months, the City of Montevideo is working with Chippewa County and Clara City to study the communities’ housing needs and priorities. This study will provide insight into the communities’ current housing stock from both a data analysis and community input perspective. The desired outcome is an easy-to-use plan that identifies and prioritizes housing needs and provides an implementation matrix with action steps, a timeline, a responsible party, and resources.
CCM Health moves forward building a new childcare center for employees
CCM Health is excited to share that it has received approval from the Montevideo City Council and the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners to move forward with the construction of a new childcare center for staffs’ children. The new facility, set to break ground this spring, will expand and provide much-needed childcare services for CCM Health staff, supporting the organization’s commitment to being one of the best places to work in the United States.
TOMF “Jam the Gym” fundraising eventcelebrating 30 years
The mission of the Tim Orth Memorial Foundation is to raise funds to assist children who are facing substantial medical expenses incurred as a result of a serious accident or illness. The Foundation is an all-volunteer organization that organizes fundraising events to support the children in the community in addition to raising the much-needed funds. Between the events on Friday, March 28th in Winthrop and Saturday, March 29th in Glencoe and Hector, assistance will be provided to nineteen recipients.
MAMLN hosts educational event on Dementia
MAMLN (Montevideo Area Memory Loss Network) will host an educational event on Wednesday, April 2 from 8:30 am – 4:00 p.m. at the MN Veterans Home - Montevideo (2190 William Avenue, Montevideo, MN 56265). This event is made possible in part by a Minnesota Board on Aging Dementia Grant.

Prairie Five employee awarded
Laura Milbrandt, Housing/Weatherization Program Director for Prairie Five Community Action in Montevideo was awarded the James Gardner Service Award for the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP). This award was presented by the National Association of State Community Services Programs at Arlington, VA, February 6, 2025. Laura was nominated for this award by the Minnesota Department of Commerce Weatherization Program Staff.
