Minnesota Valley Community Concert Series 2025-26
The Minnesota Valley Community Concert Association (MVCCA) has worked for over sixty years to bring music and cultural experiences to West Central Minnesota. This exposure to quality performances supports, promotes and enriches music learning and appreciation. MVCCA Board and membership wishes to share with the community their passion for a variety of entertainment ranging from classical to choral to tribute acts to comedy and much more.

Fall-like weather for the weekend
Flooding was a big problem earlier this week across the state, after heavy rainfall hit Minnesota over the weekend into early Monday. Some locations reported over 10 inches of rain over the weekend.

Community gathers for National Night Out event
The annual Montevideo Police Department hosted National Night Out Event at Smith Park with a good turnout despite the heat last week. All Emergency Response departments in Montevideo, including the Chippewa County Police Department were represented. Families attending the event were able to check out a fire truck, ambulance, and different police vehicles as well as taking turns trying to pick up the armored shield. The event also featured door prizes, bouncy houses, and information booths for services the county provides, and special needs services offered in the area. The Sheriff’s Department also hosted demonstrations with the department’s K9 drug dog.

Local Hospital Leader Recognized by Minnesota Hospital Association
CCM Health is proud to announce that Board Member David Lieser has been recognized by the Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA) for successfully completing MHA’s trustee certification program. David was honored during MHA’s 2025 Summer Trustee Conference in late July alongside other hospital and health system leaders from across Minnesota.

Farmers Gather in Madison to Discuss ‘Bringing Small Grains Back to Minnesota’
“Welcome to my midlife crisis,” joked Peter Haugen on a Saturday morning in early August as a couple dozen farmers stood in a semi-circle around him and his wife, Brittany, at the edge of a 12-acre field south of Madison. The “crisis” Peter was referring to was what was growing in that field: emmer wheat, an ancient variety of grain sought after by specialty bakers. Over the hill was a 15-acre stand of einkorn wheat and down the road was a bright yellow stand of oats. Surrounding all these fields were crops more typically found in this part of the Midwest: corn and soybeans.

Fischer Laser Eye Center Welcomes Dr. Carlene Solomon, OD to Montevideo and Willmar Offices
Fischer Laser Eye Center is proud to announce that Carlene Solomon, OD will be joining its team of dedicated eye care professionals. Dr. Solomon will begin seeing patients on August 25, 2025, at both the Montevideo and Willmar locations, bringing her expertise and compassionate care to communities across the region.
Archery in the Parks at Lac qui Parle State Park
Archery in the Parks is hands-on instruction shooting a bow and arrow from certified instructors in a safe and supportive environment. Aim for a family adventure with kid-friendly equipment designed for beginners aged 8 and older. Children age 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult. All equipment is provided. Personal archery equipment is not allowed. This program is run as a stop by, first come first served program.

Highs in the mid-low 70s most of the week
Another week and another active weather pattern was with us. We had storms on Sunday evening and again on Monday night.

New community theatre company hosts first production
A newly formed Non-Profit Community Theatre in Montevideo, Starlight and Main Theatre Company, housed within the Hollywood on Main LLC is hosting its first production, titled “Route 66”, a 1950s Diner Musical. Wyatt Haugen, and a cast of around 10 community members will host the production July 25th-27th. Tickets are now available online or at the door. Performances are held at 7 p.m. with a matinee performance on the 27th at 2:30 p.m. More information on tickets can be found on the Starlight and Main Theatre Company’s facebook page.
