Memory Care Corner
Have you ever told your spouse or friend something and knew they were not paying attention? I experience that from time to time if I say something to my husband while he is looking at his IPad or listening to the television. Even though he might murmur a response, I can almost bet that he has no idea what he just responded to! (Perhaps this is the time I should suggest making a large purchase or plan a trip!) If you stop and think about it, hearing and remembering go hand in hand.
Use the winter to prepare for spring turkey hunting
Imagine sitting in the woods on a spring morning with wildflowers in bloom, trees budding bright green and birds overhead migrating back to Minnesota. Then a turkey gobbles in the distance, responding to a turkey call.

News from Milan
What a wonderful day we had Saturday. I’m sure it’s only a tease before we head back to winter. After all we do have a couple of months yet before the threat of snow is done. I’ll just enjoy it while it issunny and warming. I don’t even mind putting up with sloppy gravel roads. I can always run to the car wash again.

The Paper Plane Recently my friend Chris suggested something radical: the Paper Plane. That got me thinking.
Letter to the Editor
The last couple of weeks there have been articles in the Montevideo American News and the West Central Tribune about the Community Services Building in Montevideo, commonly known as the Family Services building. Having spent 34 years as an employee in that building, the stories are of interest to me.

Ask a Trooper
Question: I was wondering if you are stopped at a stop light in the left turn lane and an emergency vehicle with lights and sirens come in behind you (either in the turn lane or the lane to your right), what is the proper procedure? Thank you! Answer: When it comes to encountering emergency vehicles while stopped at a stop light and the only place to move is the actual intersection, it is best to stay in place and let the emergency vehicle maneuver around your vehicle. Unless otherwise directed by law enforcemement.

Kindling of a Kind January means colder weather which means we get to set things on fire! Okay. Best fire practices include a fire pit or, in my case, a fireplace.

From the Editor’s Desk
Punxsutawney Phil made his appearance last Thursday and predicted six more weeks of winter. The annual hoopla surrounding the Groundhog Day tradition seemed to pass with little enthusiasm locally.

Mild temps for the week
I know we have a lot of snow chances yet this season, but I think a lot of people have had some spring fever over the past several days with the warmer air that has moved-in across the Upper Midwest. There was a lot of melting going on over the weekend and for the start of this week as well.

GUESS WHO?
Each week, the Montevideo American News will share a photograph from our archives for you to “guess who”. To submit your guesses, send us a message by email to jstolen-jacobson@cherryroad. com or message our Facebook page. We will publish the answers the next week.
