There’s nothing quite as exciting to a nerd like me as the annual Minnesota Newspaper Association Convention. Each year’s convention is an opportunity to take courses throughout the two days that are led by long-time pros in their field.

Before I start, I want to clarify that I have no interest in royals. I do not read about royals in the newspapers or books. I do not watch shows or movies on royals. I do not believe there should even be royals. But other earthlings can’t get enough of the royals so “journalists” churn story after story out on the topic. But where does it start/end? This column is a royal summary, written by someone who has gleaned everything he knows about the topic from headlines.

If you’re reading this column, then you already know that I survived what I’m about to tell you about. In all of the years I’ve owned my downtown building, my “help” with most projects, repairs, etc, has been my oldest child.

Ask a Trooper
Question: Can someone please tell dealers or inform people that their auto lights do not work during daylight hours? Or put it on those digital signs along the interstates? I did not know this when I bought my 05 vibe and someone told me that. So when we had these storms and fog, there are people driving without lights at all or no tail lights and when it is a white or silver vehicle makes it worse.

Last week, I decided to take on redesigning my bedroom, as it’s the one room in the house I haven’t touched since initially decorating it when we moved in seven years ago. Around that same time, my grandmother had given me a box of keepsakes my grandfather had saved from his youth.

To write about a thing, like, say, I don’t know, hypothetically, an ode, you might really want to have an intimate knowledge of the thing. Or perhaps you might want to really get to know thing, so you spend hours and days and weeks researching the thing. Or you might chat with experts, folks that spend their life studying the vicissitudes of the thing.
