Last week and this week so far has been all about meetings for our staff in which we learned how to use the new software systems we will be using as of March 1st to create our newspapers, and worked through all of our redesign processes in anticipation of fully transitioning our newspapers to CherryRoad Media. Between the meetings and an unexpected death in my family that took me out of state over the weekend for a funeral, it was a week filled with less than my average time to collect news. A challenge, for sure, when filling three newspapers.

When I was a kid, my cousin and I would attach baskets to our bikes and sweep the neighborhood park for soda bottles. A good weekend haul would fetch us a pocket full of change when we cashed them in at the local Kroger’s. Each bottle was worth a two cents deposit back then. Earnings in hand, we’d pedal over to the A&W and treat ourselves to a well-earned frosty mug of root beer. Life was good, and bottles got recycled!

Dear Editor, On Saturday, January 29th, the Montevideo High School Band held its annual Band Carnival. This year's Band Carnival was an amazing testament to the support our community members and local businesses have for the Montevideo Band Program.

Last week and this week, the Editors of the Minnesota group of newspapers that were purchased by CherryRoad Media began training on how to use the new software system to transition our work over to CherryRoad. Soon, as I've been saying, you'll start seeing the changes in the newspapers, and that will be exciting.

The big game’s a’comin’ and every year there’s a lot of talk about the commercials. Normally commercials are a thing I avoid. During a commercial break, I usually take a stroll or engage in light banter. I might fix a snack or even, on occasion, check the laundry.

Another roller-coaster week. Tuesday it got warm enough to rain. Yes, rain in February. That made the roads and streets terribly slippery. I even had to completely skip walking the dog one day. That hasn't happened in the last 3 years. We both lived through that experience.
