Montevideo tennis defeats Sauk Centre

Last week, the Montevideo Girls Varsity Tennis team took on both Minnewaska and Suk Centre. In the game against Minnewaska, the team finished 0-7. Scoring follows:

Montevideo football takes on Melrose

The Montevideo Boys Varsity Football team took on Melrose in their opening game of the season for a 6-42 loss. Leaders in the game included Lathen Nipple who scored eight tackles. Complete scoring follows:

The Montevideo Girls Varsity tennis team kicked off the season last week with a win over Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson Boyd in a home triangular. Scoring from that event follows:

Montevideo swim team takes 5th

Last Friday, the Montevideo Girls Varsity swim and dive team started their season with a 5th place spot at the Willmar Invitational. Scoring from that event follows:

Montevideo Cross Country begins season

The Montevideo Cross Country teams opened their season last week at the Brave Like Gabe invitational at Arvig Park in Perham with the boys finishing in 8th place with a score of 162 while the girls team finished in sixth place with a score of 165. Individual top scorers follows:

Montevideo TRAP team compete

Recently, 25 of the Thunder Hawks Trap Team athletes competed in the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League State Trap Shooting Tournament. The weather was a little different than last year. In 2024 the temperature was around 96 degrees. In 2025 they started the day at 53 degrees and overcast with little to no wind.

Montevideo Track & Field athletes go to state

Qualifying for state, Elizabeth O’Malley threw in the discus finals this Tuesday, and Adam VanBinsbergen ran the 800m prelims on Tuesday. There were 20 girls in the discus competition, with the top nine who medal being all-state. There were 19 boys competing in the 800, with the top nine making it to finals held on Wednesday. As of print time, scores were not yet available for this edition.

New education requirements in effect July 1 for some boaters in Minnesota

Beginning July 1, 2025, more people who operate motorboats or personal watercrafts on Minnesota waters must obtain a valid watercraft operator’s permit. The updated requirements, passed into law during 2023, are intended to make boating safer by ensuring people operating motorized watercraft know the rules and are properly trained.

Montevideo baseball defeats Minnewaska, Windom

Last week, the Montevideo Boys Varsity Baseball team took on Minnewaska for a 10-1 victory. Leaders in the game included Gannon Reidinger who pitched nine strike-outs with no walks, while Brody Dack was 3-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and two runs. Complete scoring follows:

Montevideo tennis has state qualifiers

Last week, Montevideo’s Varsity Tennis team participated in the tennis sections tournament. Gabe Lindeman placed 2nd and will head to the State Tournament. The doubles team, Chris Negen and Brady Backer, placed 4th in Sections.
