Montevideo Thunder Hawks hoops season recap

The Montevideo boys basketball team came into the 2022-23 season with a lot of unknowns, coach Derek Webb said Monday afternoon as he was asked to reflect on the performance of this year’s team. “After graduating nine seniors the previous year, it was difficult to know what to expect,” he said.

Koenen chosen in top 40 girls basketball players in the state

Montevideo High School Senior Avery Koenen was recently announced as one of the top 40 girls basketball players in the state by the Minnesota Girls Basketball All-Star Series. Koenen will be leading a free youth girls basketball clinic that will be held for girls in grades K-4 in Richfield on April 8th. Avery will play in the all-star series game later that day.

Time to buy new hunting, fishing licenses

It’s the time of year when anglers and hunters need to buy new fishing and hunting licenses. Minnesota fishing, hunting and trapping licenses for 2022 expire Tuesday, Feb. 28. Licenses for 2023 are now available wherever fishing and hunting licenses are sold, online (mndnr.gov/buy license) and by telephone at 888-6654236. Mobile buyers receive a text or email that serves as proof of a valid fish or game license to state conservation officers.

School Board addresses roof issue, calendar changes

At last week’s meeting of the Montevideo School Board, the board was finally able to make a motion to accept a bid on replacement of the Middle School roof. The roof’s need for repairs has been a topic of discussion for awhile, as the summer storms in 2022 caused significant damage.

Local duo take lead in standard doubles in Reno

Chad Reimer (Granite Falls) and Justin Weckwerth (Montevideo) come from small towns in western Minnesota where everyone knows your name. On Tuesday night at the National Bowling Stadium, they were able to put together a score of 1,136 to take the lead in Standard Doubles at the 2023 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships, giving the bowling world the chance to know their names.

Thunder Hawks boys basketball team ends season

The Thunder Hawks boys varsity basketball team ended their season over the weekend at the SMSU R/A Facility in Marshall, as they took a loss to Redwood Valley by just three points in the final moments of the game.
