DNR certifies a state record hybrid sunfish
An angler caught a one pound 12-ounce hybrid sunfish from Green Lake in Kandiyohi County that the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has certified as tying the weightbased state record. The record fish’s weight ties that of a hybrid sunfish caught from the Zumbro River in 1994.
Thunder Hawks Cross Country travels to championship
Last week, the Montevideo Boys and Girls Cross Country teams traveled to the Section 3A Championships at Luverne High School. The boys team finished in 9th place with a score of 220.
Thunder Hawks boys basketball team short on experience, strong on young talent
Montevideo’s varsity boys basketball team graduated all five starters and eight players from last year’s 11-12 team, which lost to Jackson County Central 75-67 in a 3AA South quarterfinal. Normally with the entire starting lineup absent, the Thunder Hawks’ upcoming 202223 season would scream ‘rebuilding year’.
Thunder Hawks take on Morris/CA in Section 6AAA quarterfinals
The Thunder Hawks varsity football team traveled to Morris to take on Morris/Chokio-Alberta in Section 6AAA quarterfinals action last Tuesday evening. The team took a loss 20-50. Leaders in the game included Jaxon Wagner who scored a rushing touchdown. Dirksen signs letter of intent
On Wednesday October 19th, Montevideo Senior Hailey Dirksen participated in a letter of intention signing to play basketball at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa. Dirksen has been accepted to the university and will be attending in the fall of 2023.

Thunder Hawks take on West Central Area
The Thunder Hawks Volleyball team took on West Central Area in Barrett last Thursday for a 2-3 loss. Leaders in the game included Avery Koenen who scored 26 kills - a team high, 15 digs, two set assists, one ace serve and two ace blocks.

Thunderhawks Volleyball team defeats Benson
Last Tuesday, the Montevideo Girls Varsity Volleyball team took on Morris/Chokio-Alberta for a 1-3 loss in Morris. On Thursday, the team hosted Benson, defeating the team 3-1.
Montevideo Swim and Dive team takes part in championship
Last Thursday, the Montevideo Girls Varsity Swim and Dive team traveled to Willmar for the Section 3A True Team girls swimming and diving championship. Elizabeth O’Malley scored an eighth place finish in diving with a score of 281.80. Lauren Dove scored the 22nd place in the 200 Individual Medley with a score of 2:40.86.
