Minnesota’s youth deer season will take place statewide Thursday, Oct. 20, through Sunday, Oct. 23. The season coincides with statewide teacher workshops, so many Minnesota students don’t have school during the youth season.

Montevideo hosts Melrose in Homecoming game

The Montevideo Thunder Hawks Football team hosted Melrose in their Homecoming game last Friday. The team took a loss 12-19 in a close-played game. Leaders in the game included Francis O’Malley who scored two touchdowns on 184 yards with 24 carries.

Hearts, Hooves and Heroes event held at Lee-Mar Equine Center

The annual Hearts, Hooves, and Heroes event was held at Lee-Mar Equine Center and Ranch on Friday, September 29th in order to honor all of the organization’s hardworking and dedicated volunteers. The event started with a cookout, followed by a short awards ceremony where there was a myriad of folks receiving recognition for all they do at the ranch, with others, and of course with the horses. The dinner reception and awards ceremony was held at the indoor arena at the ranch where it ended around 7 p.m.

Montevideo takes 3rd in YME invitational

The Montevideo boys and girls Cross Country teams traveled to the Yellow Medicine East Invitational at the Granite Run Golf Course last week. The boys team took the 3rd place spot with a final score of 80.

Montevideo to match up against Rockford in Mid-State game Friday

Montevideo will match up well against host Rockford in their Mid State Red high school football game Friday night, Thunder Hawks coach David Vik said Tuesday afternoon. “They’re a little deeper than us, but physically we’re pretty evenly matched,” said Vik of the Rockets (3-2), who overpowered host Minnewaska 43-0 last Friday to improve to 3-1 in the conference.

Thunder Hawks defeat Lakers at home 45-18

The Thunder Hawks took on Minnewaska at home Friday night for a sweeping 45-18 victory. Leaders in that game included Francis O’Malley who went for 348 yards (a school record), with seven rushing touchdowns and 26 carries.

Montevideo Cross Country teams travel to Lac qui Parle Valley/ Dawson-Boyd Invitational

The Montevideo Boys and Girls Cross Country teams traveled to the Madison Golf Course last Tuesday to take part in the Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson- Boyd Invitational. The boys took home the sixth place spot finishing with a team score of 148. Scoring from that event follows: Individual Top Five (Boys): (15) Brady Andrews, 18:34.54, (26) Carson Lynner, 19:31.89, (29) Blake Andrews, 19:43.36, (38) Nelson Velasquez, 20:16.37, (4) Jose Cardona, 20:25.91.
