Legion Riders host annual Summer Fun Run

This past Saturday the Montevideo American Legion Riders hosted their annual Summer Fun Run. The event raises money for children of military service members for scholarships. This year’s event had 60 motorcycles and 75 attendees. With several area sponsors contributing cash and items for door prizes, the event was a success. Everyone enjoyed a pre planned destination ride and were treated to a supper prepared by Legion Riders and Auxiliary members. Jon Tollakson wins first Late Model feature at Fiesta City Speedway

Brady Hagen took the lead to start the Pure Stock feature. Tad Peterson took the lead from Hagen on lap three, but Hagen would retake the lead on the very next lap. Cody Hatch would battle side by side with Hagen with two laps to go. Hatch would take over the lead as the field came to take the white flag and went on to get his fourth win of the season.

CCM Health’s Color Run returns to the fair this year

Those who enjoy running can look forward to the return of CCM Health’s Color Run during the Chippewa County Fair this year. The Color Run was last held in 2019. Organizer Leah Lehtola, CCM Wellness Center Community Health Director, says, “This year’s event will be a fun one! Runners will be doused in colored powder at nine different stations throughout the route.”

Monte Chamber’s 2022 Ag Golf event held

The Montevideo Chamber hosted the 2022 Ag Golf Championships at the River Crest Golf Course with eighteen holes played. The event raises funds that allowed for four scholarships to be awarded in 2021 to recipients in Chippewa County. This year’s winner was Citizens Alliance Agency. The SKINS winner was Old National Bank with team number three, Longest Putt was awarded to Ryan Knutson, Closest to Pin was awarded to Marsha Radermacher, Longest Drive was awarded to Joe Bednar. Montevideo will ride O’Malley again this season

Montevideo fullback-linebacker Francis O’Malley will be asked to carry the Thunder Hawks on his thick shoulders again this fall. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound junior, a generational superstar who has the skillset to also dominate at the college level, is widely considered one of the most punishing rushers and fiercest run stoppers in Minnesota high school football.
