Vik eager to begin second stint as head football coach

David Vik is eager to begin his second stint as Montevideo’s head football coach, following a two-year hiatus. “I thought I was done with coaching football,” said Vik, who stepped down as the Thunder Hawks’ head coach following the 2019 season after 11 successful seasons.

Minnesota Twins offer free hats

Anyone with a 2022 Minnesota fishing or hunting license can receive a free camouflage Minnesota Twins logo cap thanks to a special Twins ticket offer. The Minnesota DNR Days are back at Twins games this season, through a partnership between the Twins and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Wymer named to Hamline University Dean’s List

Aurora Wymar, of Montevideo, was named to the Hamline University College of Liberal Arts Dean’s List for the Fall 2021 term. Wymar was among 641 students to make the Dean’s List in Fall 2021.

UW-La Crosse announces spring 2022 Dean’s List

The following area students have been named to the Dean’s List at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse for the spring semester of the 2021-22 academic year, ending May 2022. -Livia Gades, of Montevideo, Biology Major: Biomedical Science Concentration Qualification for the Dean’s List is limited to students who have attained outstanding academic achievement.

White on Dean’s List

Congratulations to Olivia White of Montevideo, MN, daughter of Eric and Jennifer White, who was named to the Dean’s List at Saint Mary’s University. The list includes nearly 400 undergraduate students who earned a grade point average of 3.60 or better on a 4.0 scale.

Third Charity Barrel Series held

Mulder has Legion senior baseball team peaking for the playoffs

Ben Mulder says he’s living a dream as head coach of the Montevideo American Legion senior baseball team. “It’s even better than I expected,” Mulder, 22, a former Thunder Hawks standout who’s now in his second season as skipper, said in a phone interview Friday morning from Omaha, Neb., as his 19-and-under team prepared for its third of at least five guaranteed games in the 45-team Battle of Omaha tournament later in the day.

Unbeaten Legion junior baseball team eyes state tournament run

Montevideo’s American Legion junior baseball team carried a 6-0 record into scheduled games Monday at Redwood Falls and Tuesday at Camby. The Thunder Hawks will continue a fourgame road stint next week with games at Madison and Dawson, before wrapping up regular season play with back-to-back home games against Granite Falls and Sacred Heart.

Enevoldsen graduates from University of Minnesota Morris

Kaitlynne Enevoldsen, of Watson, received a bachelor of arts degree in Elementary Education. University of Minnesota Morris is one of five campuses that comprise the University of Minnesota System, the University of Minnesota Morris provides opportunities for students to grow intellectually, engage in community, experience environmental stewardship and celebrate diversity.

Zebra mussels confirmed in Long Lake in Kandiyohi County

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has confirmed a report of zebra mussels in Long Lake, which is near Willmar in Kandiyohi County. A lake property owner contacted the DNR after his daughter found a zebra mussel attached to a rock while swimming in the lake.
