Move it!
Your body was designed to move. If you don’t exercise enough and sit too much, you are at greater risk of chronic diseases, especially as you age. These chronic health concerns include heart disease, type 2 diabetes, certain cancers (including breast and colon), osteoporosis, dementia, and depression. The following are harmful changes in the body and health risks linked with sitting too much and not getting enough physical activity: excess belly fat, inflammation linked with chronic disease, and a weakened immune system. Regarding your heart and blood vessels: poor blood circulation, greater risk of high blood pressure, unhealthy cholesterol levels, higher heart attack and stroke risk. As it pertains to your brain and nervous system: reduced brain function and low mood, difficulty with learning and memory, and faster brain aging. The encouragement to go exercise and make a difference by MOVING your body remains strong. No one can do it for you! There are many things in life out of our control, but truly caring for your body by moving it and making healthy food choices is WITHIN your control. Need some encouragement? As us about our health sessions and coaching options!
Editor’s Note
Editor’s Note: The newspaper’s Building Community Feature is taking a one week hiatus this week due to the holiday. In the meantime, feel free to continue nominating those you know who help to build community - whether it’s through small things, or very large, life-changing things. Those who inspire ideas in others they may not have considered, and who would offer words of encouragement from a place of having overcome their own challenges to be more involved in community. To nominate somebody, send an email to jstolen-jacobson@cherryroad.com.

GUESS WHO?
Each week, the Montevideo American News will share a photograph from our archives for you to “guess who”. To submit your guesses, send us a message by email to jstolen-jacobson@cherryroad. com or message our Facebook page. We will publish the answers the next week.
