Thomas Reynolds

Thomas Reynolds, 89, of Montevideo passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, in St. Cloud. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 30, 2022, from 4 – 7 p.m. at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Montevideo. A private family service will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2022, with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.
Thomas Lyle Reynolds was born on June 9, 1933, in Fargo, N.D. to Leslie and Ellen (Eng) Reynolds. He spent the majority of his childhood in Mayville, N.D. surrounded by his aunts, uncles, and cousins. Tom attended elementary and junior high school in Mayville and then moved to Garrison, N.D. where he graduated high school.
For a short time, Tom attended University of North Dakota before he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on September 5, 1952. He proudly served and was honorably discharged on September 4, 1956. Tom met Jean Mitchell in December of 1954 on the naval base, Barin Field, in Foley, Ala. Jean worked at the Base Exchange, where one day she grabbed Tom by the arm and said, “Smile sailor, it’s Christmas.” On January 20, 1956, Tom and Jean were married in Lenior, N.C. at the parsonage of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Tom and Jean moved to Minot, N.D. and he soon began to work in the clothing business. He worked for S & L in Minot, Sioux City, Iowa, Slayton, and Montevideo. After S & L closed, Tom worked for Wilson’s Clothing for seven years and Bill’s Supermarket for 17 years.
Tom and Jean raised their four children, Alicia, Jeff, Tracy and Mitch in Montevideo. Tom was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, Quarterback Club, American Legion, and former Fiesta Chairman. He also was the secretary/treasurer of the Montevideo Country Club and a faithful member of the football chain gang at the Montevideo High School for 15 plus years.
Tom enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, golfing, and was an avid sports fan. He especially loved watching the Minnesota Vikings!
Tom is survived by his wife, Jean; children, Alicia (Chuck) Lee of Montevideo, Jeff (DeAnn) Reynolds of Groveton, Texas, Tracy (Rick) Rahe of St. Cloud, Mitch (Peggy) Reynolds of Pipestone; grandchildren, Zachary (Corina Kells) Lee, Cassie (Tyler) Sonstegard, Thomas (Kristen) Reynolds, Kaylie (Jay) Hamby, Clarey (Brendan) McInerny, Conor (Jessica) McKeown, Mason (Whitney) Reynolds, Aaron Reynolds; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Simonson of Fargo; sister-in-law, Diane Mitchell of Lenoir; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Ellen; step-father, Henry Haugen; father- and mother-in-law, AC and Vergie Mitchell; brothers-in-law, Fritz Simonson and Jerry Mitchell.
