GRANITE FALLS - Irene Helen Rupp of Granite Falls was received by our Lord and Savior on Friday, January 28, 2022, at the age of 90. She passed away at her home surrounded by family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 4th at 11:00 am at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Granite Falls. Visitation will take place from 5 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, at the Wing-Bain Funeral Home with the Rosary and prayer service at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services on Friday. Interment at the St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery.
Local student makes Dean’s list at SMSU
Southwest Minnesota State University students have been honored for academic achievement during the fall semester 2021. Local students making the list are: Paige Smit of Montevideo.
Iowa State University announces Dean’s list
More than 9,700 Iowa State University students have been recognized for outstanding academic achievement by being named to the fall semester 2021 Dean's List. Students named to the Dean's List must have earned a grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale while carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded course work. Local students making the list are: Allyssa Jade Parker, Veterinary Medicine.
White named to Dean’s list at Saint Mary’s University
Olivia White of Montevideo was named to the first semester 2021 Dean’s List at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. The list includes 417 undergraduate students who earned a grade point average of 3.6 or better on a 4.0 scale. She is the daughter of Eric and Jennifer White.

Charlie Roth to perform February 5 in Dawson
Dawson-Boyd Arts Association presents an evening with singer songwriter and international performer Charlie Roth on Saturday, February 5 at 7:00pm at Memorial Auditorium in Dawson. Originally from Lac qui Parle County, Roth will be joined by local vocalist Mary Melby and musician Cristina Seaborn. Roth is no stranger to western Minnesota audiences nor is Melby; their band Buffalo Rose performed from 1978- 81 and Roth returns to the area every year. Melby is a frequent performer at Prairie Arts Center productions in Madison. Seaborn, part of the Celtic band Ring of Kerry, plays fiddle and cello.

Breakaway roping clinics at Lee-Mar offer opportunity to learn skills in popular sport
MRA Breakaway roping champion Katie Bell returned to Lee-Mar Ranch to offer a roping clinic over the weekend. Bell hosted clinics last year at the Ranch and assisted Tony Gable with roping clinics the year prior. Bell has two more clinics scheduled at Lee-Mar in the coming weeks. “We’ll have one on the 26th and another on the 27th and then after that, she’ll be on the rodeo trail so we get to follow her and see what she’s doing,” says Lee-Mar Ranch Manager Vicki Patterson.
