Local teen participates in Miss Teen USA pageant
After seeing an advertisement for the Minnesota Miss Teen USA pageant on Facebook, Tianna Wright, a Yellow Medicine East High School student, made the decision to compete. In order to prepare for her first pageant, two years ago, Wright reached out to others she knew were involved in pageantry, most specifically indigenous people, to seek advice for competing. Wright found a coach in North Dakota and began her venture into the world of pageants.
Strategic Farming: Field notes addressed late planting concerns
The cool, wet spring has led to significant planting delays in parts of the state. Others are dealing with flooding after planting.
Heritage Days is June 17th-18th
Heritage Hill, near Montevideo, is preparing for its annual Heritage Days event to be held June 17th through the 18th. The weekend-long celebration is a hands-on exhibit of how life was lived 100 years ago.

The family of Lois Phillips would like to express a heartfelt THANK YOU to all who took time to express their sympathy at her death. Whether it was a message, text, card or gift; it was deeply appreciated. Lois lived a big life, and that was evident at the stories we heard and shared. She certainly left a mark in this world, and we’ll try not to screw it up.

Yellow Medicine County Museum hosts 150th anniversary exhibit
In celebration of Yellow Medicine County’s 150th anniversary, the Yellow Medicine County Museum in Granite Falls is featuring a special exhibit with a focus on the townships. Yellow Medicine County was established in 1852, when the United States Government established the Yellow Medicine Agency for the Upper Sioux.
Construction progressing on Veterans Home in Montevideo
Officials from the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) visited Montevideo on Tuesday, June 7 to provide an update to local leaders and stakeholders on the status of the future Minnesota Veterans Home in Montevideo. The location is a 13.5-acre site at the intersection of William Avenue and County Road 15.

Litchfield Marching Band to perform in Montevideo
The Litchfield Marching Band has been one of Minnesota’s Premier parade marching bands for the last 60 years. The marching band has traveled throughout the United States and Canada, and this summer will be traveling back to Chicago and Myrtle Beach. The marching band parade schedule for 2022 includes: Albertville Friendly City Days Parade, Benson Pioneerland Festival, Litchfield Parade of Bands, Montevideo Fiesta Days,, Hutchinson Water Carnival, Glencoe Parade, Waconia Band Festival, Eden Valley Days Parade, Lake City Water Ski Days Parade, Roseville Rosefest Parade and the Litchfield Watercade.

Local students graduate from Augustana University
Augustana University is extremely proud to announce the graduating Class of 2022. Of the 416 students who earned baccalaureate degrees in Academic Year 2021-22, nearly half will graduate with honors. Another 219 students earned a master’s degree from the university. The 2022 graduates hail from 10 countries, 31 states and 43 communities in South Dakota.
Local students named to MSU Moorhead Dean’s list
The following students have been named to the Minnesota State University Moorhead dean’s list in recognition of academic achievement spring semester 2022. Students must maintain a 3.25 or higher grade point average and carry 12 graded credits to qualify for the honor.
