Granite Falls man injured in plane crash
On 6/10/22 at about 7:03 am the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting an airplane crash east of the Granite Falls Airport in a field. The reporter said that there was a male party walking by the plane with cuts on his head. The Granite Falls Ambulance and Granite Falls Fire Department were paged to the scene along with area law enforcement. The pilot was treated at the scene and was airlifted by North Memorial Air Care to North Memorial in Robbinsdale. His medical status is unknown at this time.

Montevideo American Legion hosts first of summer roll-ins
The Montevideo American Legion hosted the first of their summer series of motorcycle and classic car roll-ins last Wednesday evening, offering a build-your-own burger bar, and drink specials. The event is scheduled to be held the second Wednesday of the month in June and July as well. Newly remodeled Cenex opens
On Thursday, June 9th, 2022 the Cenex on Hwy 7 in Montevideo officially opened back up for business after completing renovations that started on December 23rd, 2021. Manager Robin Enevoldsen said, “[We are] so thrilled to be back on the east side of town; ready and able to serve our customers.” She also said that they were able to retain all of their employees during the renovations by keeping them actively employed at their other location on the west side of town at the Travel Plaza. Enevoldsen raved about all of the employees noting that it was important to retain them because of how good they all are.
Area Drivers Qualify for Race of Champions at Fiesta City Speedway

DNR offers advice for dealing with storm damaged trees
Cleanup following a storm can be an overwhelming task for homeowners. If trees have been damaged, knowing which to save and which to remove can enhance people’s safety and the survival of remaining trees, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
Montevideo Athletic Director gives School Board overview of his first year in new role
At the meeting of the Montevideo School Board Monday night, Athletic Director Jesse Nelson gave the annual report on activities in the athletics and community education departments. Having just completed his first year in the Athletic Director role, Nelson said there was a lot to learn, but that overall, he felt the year went very well.
School Board discusses offer of property
At the regular monthly meeting of the Montevideo School Board, one of the topics of discussion was during the Superintendent’s Report, when Superintendent McKittrick introduced a discussion on a potential property donation.

Kayaker on 1,600 mile adventure makes local stops
Madison Eklund, from upstate New York, recently embarked on a journey to venture more than 1,600 miles by way of kayaking from Minneapolis to York Factory, Manitoba. The trip began May 7th, and will bring Eklund across three states and one Canadian province, with a 320-mile portion of that trip being upstream on the Minnesota River. This week, the journey brought Eklund to Granite Falls and Montevideo.

Fiesta Days Fly-in Breakfast held
The EAA Chapter 688 held their annual Fiesta Days kick-off event, the Fly-in Breakfast on Sunday morning at the Montevideo-Chippewa County Airport. The event featured a breakfast, the ability to tour local emergency services vehicles, a Sheriff’s Department K-9 demonstration and more. Young Eagles flights were done at the event as well. The Young Eagles flights provide a free flight to kids ages eight to seventeen. Funds raised at the fly-in breakfast were utilized in part to provide scholarships for local students to attend aviation camps and post secondary scholarships for students pursuing an aviation career.
